Might be pink in a cooler climate. Petal shape like 'Accolade', but that's wrapping it up here, therefore should be quite over down there - not just coming out.

In fact, it's surprising any Japanese flowering cherry would be just coming out in southern California - although if you are in USDA 9 that is only one hardiness zone above us.

As usual with questions like these the real problem is not enough information coming from the supplier. You can't even get a cultivar name out of them?

I'm not too far from Van Nuys, (about 20 min) the blossoms are just now fading this week (they were in full bloom on Monday). The ones in Van Nuys are prunus serrulata "pink cloud", I think...
we've had a lot of rain and more cold weather than we normally have this time of year (it seems to me).
also, I thought maybe since they'd just been planted that they would take longer to bloom?

it LOOKS like it has about 5 petals, but I'd have to check. I'm out of town right now. They have very simple blossoms.

when they were planted they had the small hard buds on them, and stayed that way for a while, only in the past week or three did they have green buds and now blooming.

I'm going to try calling the nursery, but the first thing they told me was kinda "oops, well it wasn't blooming so we didn't know" which is kinda lame... shouldn't all the trees be labeled?

as a sidenote, a friend of mine took some photos of some baby trees at the Van Nuys park. They've just been planted, too, and they are flowering white:

... so does that mean that mine might be pink next year...? or something? I don't mind waiting. And I'd prefer not to have them disturb the tree or the adorable bird that has taken next in it.

I thought of that one, your photos of the other plants certainly show a resemblance. Latter-day specimens like these probably all coming from Cook company in Visalia.

Mine has its last flowers left, up here in cool western WA.

Best referred to as Prunus 'Pink Cloud'. There may be no P. serrulata involvement. Possibly a hybrid, as many Japanese flowering cherries are.

I mean it's a beautiful little tree and I'm more than willing to wait, I just wish I had more info if this is normal for them or not.

I didn't understand at first that the last two pictures were of your tree - no wonder they look the same as your tree. Really does not look enough like 'Pink Cloud' - at this point - for me to be confident in that choice. But certainly attractive enough in its own right - although not double.

Monrovia has a new* double one that might appeal. I have not seen it at any outlets here yet. They found it in California.

oh, I don't really care if it's double or not, more that it would eventually be pink. :) (since my other tree is a weeping white (for sure... it's labled))

If you pick a flowering twig from yours and hold it next to the labeled one, compare fine details you can determine if you have 'Pink Cloud' that way.

The Cook Co. web site has also shown 'Pink Cloud' blooming pink there in/near Visalia. It is certainly quite pink up here, near Seattle. And remember the photos that were put on the internet recently of 'Pink Cloud' park plantings in California show spectacularly heavy pink bloom.

Another one Cook supplies the west coast retail market with is the Japanese apricot. There are hundreds of kinds grown in Japan, ranging from white to nearly red in color. While these have a somewhat open habit with long straight shoots on vigorous trees/sections of trees, somewhat in the manner of their relation the common apricot, what sets this one completely apart is the wafting carnation fragrance it emits at bloom time.

unfortunately the younger ones at the park near me aren't blooming anymore, and the mature trees,... well, like I already said, they don't seem to look exactly like the younger ones.

Now that my tree is blooming more, ... it does look a little bit more like pink cloud... still white though. I dunno. I'll take more pics for you guys later.

If you look at the pictures I linked to there are white flowers among pinks ones on the same trees.

I'm still not sure... but looking at the closeup images in your link and in the photos I took the weekend before last,... I'm tempted to say Pink Cloud... the single blossom shape and the centers look very similar and as the tree goes more into fuller bloom, the position of the buds on the branch looks similar? I'm such a newbie, though.
The guy who installed the tree is very nice but... seems to be ignoring my request for more info. I'm tempted to take a branch to another nursery that's knowledgable and ask them. :\

Yes, the way it is behaving right now most might find it hard to believe it was a pink cultivar. Time will tell...
