On the last day of January

It's 50 degrees and the sun is shining in a clear blue sky. The fingernail moon is visible about 45 degrees (angular distance) trailing the sun in their paths in the sky. Should be a nice night for sky watching. There is no major event for this date, but even then the night sky is beautiful and who knows when an errant meteor or fireball or nova will occur. Might be tonight.....

What's so good about this combination? Why, walking around the yard barefoot experiencing green grass betwixt one's toes. Joe and Midnight are snoozin' in the sunlight.

Should be just as good tomorrow. Monday and Tuesday we will return to winter. No matter, with today and tomorrow, I'll be prepared.

I really promise you that you would not want to walk around anyplace near here, barefooted. What's grass? I haven't seen it for some time now.

Animals were restless last night. First the inside ones, they didn't calm down until after one in the morning and I was getting a few hours of fitful sleep until one of the outside alarms started dinging. Over, and over, and over. I drags myself to a window to see what is setting it off, and it's a herd of deer......first down the drive (prolly nibbling on whatever they could find in the way of ornamentals hanging over the stone walls), and then back up the drive. Ding.......one deer......ding.......two deer........ding three deer.........ding,ding,ding turns around and goes back. LOL. Ding, ding, ding..........................................ding. Changes mind and goes the other way again. I just get up and take intravenous coffee. Stuff is still encased in at least 3/4 inch of ice. I have been bargaining with the Gods to let the power lines hold since the fix two days ago, as each forecast of a dusting of snow with no accumulation turns into a mini whiteout. I am thankful I have had enough math to work with negative numbers on the thermometer. Tomorrow it's to be 41. I may go skinny dipping in the pond. LOL.

Daughter Linda, SIL Brian and GS Trevor came for a pre-birthday lunch, they made Turkey-Ruben grilled sandwiches and poured a nice Rieslnig for us, except for Trev, who is only 16, just got his License and enjoys being designated driver.
We sat on the deck in the sun, it hit almost 80Âº -

I'm not much for mixing fruit with meats... But I have a bag of really sour green grapes that none of us can eat...makes your mouth pucker... So I think I'm going to make a grape salad with them...hope that'll sweeten them up enough that they don't go to waste.

Sharon, I'm so glad you've been able to sew! Beth, my DH does pressure cleaning and between holidays and bad weather, he has not worked much for quite a while. I was asking him the other day how he liked being "semi-retired"! I finished all the units for the Quiltville mystery and have put it away for now. Due to shoulder injury on Jan. 9 I haven't been able to machine sew, so I've done a bit of hand sewing and re-framed several cross stitch pieces. At least it got some small projects out of the closet! Hopefully my shoulder will be better soon so I can machine sew again. Donna

I'm arriving late. Loving all the Rainforest Sunrise! Makes me very happy that I purchased one last year. I would be even happier had I photographed it! And ecstatic if it looked like any of yours! Old dirt, your Remember Me is a hosta that is going to be "remembered!" I do have one, but no photo, and it is still small. That's another one that is on the "difficult to grow list." Too pretty to not try to grow it. I will add Radiant Edger to the thread since I don't think anyone posted one. and Robert Frost. Nice to see a few others have it too. June 8 June 28 August

Nice late afternoon photo. Dee! RTHawk, I am amazed at the dandelions since you are only an hour south of me! I have had snow totally covering the ground for some time, but our last big snow ended as rain, leaving the ground with an oddly lumpy, glazed appearance for some time. Then last week we had a light dusting of snow so that now it is lumpy but without the shiny surface. The woods are a bit icy, so I have to wear hiking spikes when I go out with the dog. The creek is mostly frozen, though I wouldn’t dare to walk on it. Today it is snowing and windy.

it is really nice here too, getting ready to enjoy the superbowl, but the weather is almost too nice to pass up by staying indoors.
