January Quilting/Sewing Goals
Comments (60)Woo Hoo....yesterday, after 3 attempts at sewing my first seam in almost 15 years and then finally getting it right, then sewing my next two seams on the incorrect sides of the pieces (I had to use a pin to pick it out because I don't know where my seam ripper from 15 years ago is), I finally got into a good rhythm and was able to finish up the inside 4 patches of a 9-patch block that is the first of two January birthday blocks. Then I made a mistake from misunderstanding a "how to" picture on a pattern. This required much more seam ripping than what I could do with a little pin and I decided to put it away until I was less frustrated and could go out and purchase an actual seam ripper. THEN...my eyes beheld a small tin of sewing supplies that I just inherited about 10 days ago from my grandmother. I wondered "Could there possibly be a seam ripper in it? Please, oh, please!" Tentatively, I looked through the tin.....YES! I hit pay dirt. I haven't felt so elated since....who even remembers when. So I ripped out the seam and tonight I WILL FINISH THIS BLOCK!!! Yahoo....one more block to go, then I have two February birthdays...whew. Salijo...See MoreJanuary Quilting/Sewing Goals

Comments (28)Great on completing a UFO, Beverly. Done is a good thing. I have the last 2 borders to put on the GI Mystery Quilt and then it will probably be put away for awhile.....I'm pretty much tired of looking at it, but wanted to at least get the top completed. I also am working on an I Spy (of sorts) for Mackenzie. I don't want to turn up the thermostat but might have to. Sitting covered up with a quilt all day is eating into the sewing time. A cyber buddy from DH's forum stopped by yesterday. He was in shorts and I was in sweat pants and sweat shirt. He's from Oregon, so this was nice weather to him. At least there's no snow and it isn't like it's freezing......until tomorrow night. :-) If any of our members have a 'snow day' hope you can stay inside at the sewing machine and enjoy it. Comments (25)Let's see how I did. I got my daughter's table topper done and finished two of four placemats for her. I finished the center of my One-Block-Wonder, but it still needs two borders. I did find border and backing fabric for it, so that's good. I made a View from the Cabin top, and it's now in the "to be quilted," or TBQ pile. (I did not make a dent in the TBQ pile. In fact, I added one.) I've got all 36 scrappy log cabin blocks done, and I'm just trying to decide if I should add one more row. I completely made and mailed off my Hawaiian quilt to my friend on Maui. It arrived safely I'm happy to say, but she hasn't been home from the hospice to open the box yet. I'm fooling around with Bonnie Hunter's Boxy Stars pattern. I cut a bunch of blue, green and purple 2.5" strips into the prescribed lengths, and I've gotten several blocks done. I looks like it will be pretty. All in all, it was a productive month. I really do have to spend some time actually quilting those six, soon to be eight, quilt tops though. Rita, we were posting at the same time. I love your Rainbow Log Cabin quilt. Very creative. And Beth, your table topper and hot pads are very sweet....See More- 7 years ago
