Someone must continue the tradition even though this side is dead as a rock. Wouldn't be Easter without these guys.

They now come in blue and green. I saw some at the store, and I was thrilled. The dog is mystified and scared of the marshmallow creatures...

We got Black Astrolorp, Golden Laced Wyandotte, Silver Laced Wyandotte, Plymouth Barred Rock, White Rock and Buff Orpington chicks. It should split out with 20 to 25 hens and the rest roosters as we were ordered specifically hens in the Black Astrolorp, Plymouth Barred and Buff Orpington. We've got them in the real coop all safely enclosed in a large (about 12 sq feet) cardboard brooder with a 250W red infra-red lamp. Last night I checked them at 1AM and added a touch more heat as the temp looked a couple degrees cool. This morning at 6:15 AM, they were happy as could be... guess they like their new home. I will take some pictures when they are all done hatching. They have been hatching for two days. We'll give it a couple more days and see how many more we get. So far the neighbors white eggs are ahead of our brown and green eggs. His are all yellow chicks and ours are all weird mixed colors with some crazy markings! I saw the ugly rooster limping across the yard today. I bet he has a sand bur stuck in one of his toes. I'd remove it for him but I don't think he'd let me get near him with a pair of tweezers. He might be hard to get a pic of. He generally hangs out under the boats or the tractors where it's damp and the bugs are plentiful. But I'll try, I just have to remember to take my camera out with me when I go to the garden. MeMo

Mix of metals doesn't seem worth worrying about -- that's pretty common these days. I might turn the light fixture to face down, but just because it seems unnaturally high. For the corner/mirror, I think I'd try to find a nice wall cabinet that could go in that space, to act as a linen closet and give you a bit of a more intentional-looking solution. It's probably ok to block that wall switch if it's a duplicate of controls you have elsewhere, but you have to stay slim enough to avoid the window. Ikea has the right kind of thing. (Most of their explicitly bathroom cabinets are tall and narrow, but you could use one of the other bookcase/door/basket systems to the same end.) Otherwise, you can't do much to make it less brown, other than by putting in some colorful rugs and towels with art to match. It's possible that the paint could be a bit cooler, and I suppose you could paint the vanity from red-brown to white, with some effort. But really, this is a perfectly nice bathroom that just isn't to your style. Dress it up in things that feel more like you and then don't worry about it for a while.

I knew Easter was coming, had even canceled a camping trip in favor of birding day trips this weekend so I could participate in sundry Easter activities. But somehow I'd forgotten the Peeps-until this week's "South Park". Peeps were integral. Need I say more? I think not.

I haven't been here in a long, long time, but I felt strangely compelled to come visit and now I know why...Someone is LETTING Gin EAT PEEPS!!! Good lord! Call a medic....

No peeps left at the supermarket today ....sniff, sniff.

But they did have sugar-free chocolate bunnies for $1. Actually taste the same as the high-test chocolate bunny -- at least the three I ate did.
