Not enough germination in my lawn yet for pictures to be very helpful. I'm hoping that changes.

I may take some pictures of the grama that I seeded earlier than the other stuff (it's a warm season grass so it needs more of a head start).

I'm on day 9 with my renovation. Just starting to sprout in areas. I will post my pics at the end of next week. I decided to now do the back yard. Roundup went down couple days ago. I figured I would complete this daunting task all in the same year. I dont feel like waiting an extra year for the back. Great to see the grass sprouting though.

Into the second week of Round up aps....getting her mowed down now. Off on a business trip next week but hoping to get dethatching and seeding Labor Day weekend.

Most EXCELLENT! C'mon, peoples.....this is the weekend to check in. We won't yell at you, we just wanna know how you're doing, and what you're doing. We need to hear from some more people, and we need some more pictures!

I'm on my 3rd week of Roundup and I think most of my grass is finally dead after 4 or 5 applications! It's been raining every day (I'm in the flood-sticken area near the WI/MN border). Tonight I mowed down to an inch and bagged it. Tomorrow, I'm going to dethatch and next weekend I'm going to core aerate/seed/roll. I'll do my best to get photos tomorrow.

Pics tomorrow or Sunday from me. I want to mow it first. Tomorrow will be the first rain free day in 8 days. It looks like hell now, needs a mowing.

My back lawn is dead after two applications of Roundup over the last two weeks, have knocked down some high spots and filled some low spots, and hope to slit seed some new KBG this week. Just hoping for some good weather! Pics will come if I can get my hands on a camera in time.

Seeded Penncross Creeping Bent Grass on August 4th. Today is day 21. Mowed with my reel mower at 0.75" and fertilized with miloganite today.

Morpheus, is it just me or has the stuff that you didn't rake up pretty well decayed away now? I remember you saying you wish you had raked up more before seeding - still feel that way?

I'm trying to decide how much of what I currently have really needs to be removed vs. what can just be worked into the top layer of soil as organic material. It's dead, it will decay, right?

For the most part, it's gone. Rotted. The smell while it was going--whew! The only stuff left is at the back line where it's dry and hot. Seed's not coming up very well there, either, so it looks like I'm reseeding a five foot by 30 foot section next weekend. No big deal. I'll topdress with topsoil/compost this time.

I do wish I'd raked a bit more, yes. There's a patch in the front where it's showing slowly--it has to come through the remaining grasses yet. That's taking a bit more time, although it IS coming. The rest of the front is rotted or rotting fast.

Update: I see you all reseeding and I feel left out since I cannot do the same due to a necessary application of preemergent (and it feels so wrong to not be playing with grass seed this time of year!) Thus, yesterday, I started 3 new pans of "sod" (KBG) like the one pictured below that I used to patch a few small bare spots this past Spring. I tried this method more as an experiment than anything else--but it worked. I have a few small patches that I believe are the remains of POA annua and in about 30 days or so, I'll be able to cut sections of "sod" from the pans to plant and still put down the pre-m.

Looks great grassman! What have the temperatures been like there? I seeded a similar blend on Thurday (same except Award replacing Blue Velvet) and daytime highs have been high seventies/low eighties, with cooler evenings, curious what to expect.

paulinct, I seeded moonlight, midnight II, and bedazzled on Monday 8-27. This morning I noticed some tiny little seedlings about 1/4". Sunny weather 80-85 and cool nights. I think that I will wait till tomorrow (day 7) and take some pics to post. Then maybe again at day 14.

And grass man that does look good for day 11!!

How late in the year can I plant grass seed? I was going to lay centipede sod next Spring but the way your seeds look after just a few weeks may get me to change my mind. Those are some very nice photos.

I was thinking to plant ryegrass for this winter then till it up in the spring in preparation for the sod. Will that be okay to do also? Thanks for the help, I know nothing about this.

My temps here in Erie, PA have been 75 to low 80's. One day hit 90 but it rained. I had rain each of the first 6 days or so. I have not been able to water as much as I would have liked though. It gets 8 min per zone at 5 AM and I do my best to hit it in the afternoon by hand or with an oscilating sprinkler. A water restriction makes me use my homemade inground Hunter PGP sprinkler system under the mask of darkness.

I am really happy I chose to use a leaf compost from my township as a topdressing (after core areation and seeding). In the few spots where I missed with it the are fewer seedlings. I think that it is really helping to keep the moisture in the soil.

With this being my first summer of educated lawncare, I am happy to be making progress. Thanks again to all of you out there.

I seeded August 30 and today (day 6) see the first tiny seedlings. You have to look hard to find them, but I am feeling encouraged!

Grassman your lawn looks VERY shaded for 100% KBG really looknig forward to what it will look like!

I'm on Day 4 technically but only on Day 2 with watering really.... we'll see !

Yep. Day 6 I saw a couple tiny ones poking through. I spent the whole day trying to find more! That was fun. Day 9 is here for me. When I watered the grass this morning the sun was hitting the lawn just right and I could see a green tint over some areas of the lawn where it is coming in good. Grass is coming up everywhere now.

I'm thinking the stuff that is coming up now is the Blue Velvet as the germination period is only 8-10 days. The Moonlight's germination is 14-21 days and I'm not sure what the Bedazzled's Germination is, anybody? IF you think some spots look a little bare or thin I'm thinking you should hod off for a few before dropping more seed..After 20 days or so we should be seeing everything. Just enjoy the Blue Velvet for the next couple of days.

Dan, yes just a few poking through today, so the whole yard still looks pretty much like one big bare spot. To see the seedlings you have to get down on all fours and sniff around for awhile. O.K., I don't really do that, but you get the picture...

I seem to recall reading that Bedazzled is on the fast side too, but can't find the link.

How are you planning to fertilize for the rest of the season?

Well I put down two bags of Milorganite with the seed 9 days ago so I'm thinking it should be breaking down and releasing some nitrogen? Maybe the fact that the awful smell is gone is a good indicator? Anyway I was planning on putting down a good dose of Scotts Winterizer or super turf builder near the end of October. Next spring I plan on putting down straight pre-emergents for the weeds and crabgrass plus some milorganite and compost :)

I too got down on all fours for routine germination inspections. No need to do that now, I can see it looking from the window :)
