If I was watering 2x per week, I would do a couple weeks at every 5 days and then go to every 7 days. The scary thing about chemical fertilizers is how much to use, how often, and how to care for the lawn after applying the fertilizer. With organic fertilizer, none of that matters. You can apply a double dose every day with no water afterwards and everything will be fine. That is why I suggest it for new grass. You can't hurt anything. Once your grass is up and you are mowing it all on a regular basis (2x per week for bermuda), then you can consider a chemical fertilizer. Be sure to water it in right away after applying. Do NOT wait for the next day just because the sprinklers will come on that day. I like alfalfa for the cost and the benefit. Even after you are on a monthly chemical fertilizer plan, I would strongly suggest you supplement the chemicals with at least one app of organics per year. Without that your soil can suffer.

Steamside, Tifsport is a very high-end Bermuda grass, thus requires very high-end maintenance. It is just one-step short of a golf green quality. It can be used as a golf green in lower end courses. Its main use is as fairways, tee-boxes, sports fields, museums, commercial properties, and high-end residential Tifsport needs to be kept between 5/16 and ¾ inches using a reel mower. It is such a dense grass going any higher will cause it to thin and yellow. Sound familiar? So it needs to be mowed three times a week just like a golf course. You can stair-step it down if you wish, but get aggressive about it. Another source of the yellowing is you are starving the grass to death. Tifsport is a very aggressive feeder and almost impossible to over fertilize. If you laid it in May, have not fertilized, you are behind 2 or 3 applications already. So waiting to the end of August is just asking for terrible looking grass and weeds. You have a few options for fertilizing: Apply ¼ application of fast release every week. Apply ½ application rate of fast release every 2-weeks. Apply full application of slow release every 30 days using what is called 75% sow release, 25% fast release. OK here is what the slow/fast urea and nitrate mean. Commercial fertilizers are made from two sources, Urea and Ammonia Nitrate. Fast release formulas can be either Urea or Ammonia Nitrate. Most professionals prefer Urea because it is an organic compound and does not contribute to salinity of the soil like nitrate does. Slow release formulas are mostly formulated from urea by coating it with sulfur compounds to slow down the release of nitrogen dissolving with water. So when I say 75/25 or some other ratio I mean 75% slow release and 25% fast release. The fast release works as soon as water is applied and last about a week, while the slow release carries you though for a few more weeks. Since you live in Atlanta, locate your nearest Lesco dealer. Wow 7.0 PH, hard to believe but perfect. Ok letÂs store away any post-mergence herbicides until next year. I know that seems odd, but it is too-late and too hot to be of any good now. Using any now would set you back. The grass type you planted are very good common types, good choice. However they are not the types you can mow real low to the ground like hybrids. So letÂs raise the cutting height a bit too around 1 to 1-1/2 maybe even 2-inches for the rest of the year. I looked at your pictures and noticed a bit of scalping and thin areas as a result of mowing to low for your grass type. Not to worry, plenty of time left to get things in order this year. Over all looks very good for a May panting. You have also discovered a watering problem. 20-minutes per zone is not enough for any irrigation system to put down 1-inch. You say 1-hour will do it, sounds good to me; just make sure 1-hour is the ticket to 1-inch. With that said you have very young grass with very shallow roots. With your previous under-watering, severe heat, and what sounds like a schedule by your description, your grass has been deprived of water and shows it a bit along with scalping. So here is what you do. Get out of the habit of watering once a week whether it needs it or not. LetÂs learn to water when the grass says it is thirsty and ready for a drink. In this hot weather coupled with your young shallow rooted grass, it is more than likely to be more than once a week. What you need to learn is to look at the grass and let it speak to you. Sounds crazy but is very easy. There are two ways to tell: Colored Talk: Yes I am joking and serious. Bermuda will change color from emerald green to a slightly blue or grayish color. This is caused by the blades wilting and curling up to conserve moisture. The undersides of the blades are a different color than the top, so when it wilts the hue changes color. DonÂt wait for the whole lawn to change color, look for the high and dry parts to just start the change or the very first signs. Soak it. Walk Test: Just simply walk across the lawn and look back. If your foot prints do not disappear quickly, and it feels crunchy, SOAK IT As far as fertilizer goes, only use straight nitrogen for now like 29-0-0. Preferable a slow release urea type applied every 45 days up till about 30-days before you expect a frost. At that time we will talk about a pre-emergence herbicide, but for now forget about herbicides other than either ordering one for the fall and spring applications. Hope that helps.

It was originally supposed to be 14 feet long but somewhere between the design plans and foundation it got messed up. Right now it’s 11’ 2”. I‘ll include a photo of the original house plan. I had it modified slightly to make the kitchen wider and had it flipped. The designer did make the kitchen wider but cut the length. The foundation further cut the length. I should have paid more attention to the final plan but I trusted it was done how I asked. Love and learn I guess.
