Planted a tree with my Dad

Some of you may remember an earlier post of mine, looking for a Pennsylvania nursery that could sell me a disease resistant apple tree for my father. He is 82 but is in very good health. I wanted to give him a tree for his birthday as a vote of confidence in his longevity.

Well, the tree, a Liberty apple, arrived from Adams Nursery in excellent condition. The sad news is that my mother, declining steadily in health since bypass surgery seven years ago, died two weeks ago today. The whole family was there for the funeral. I stayed behind a few extra days. After everyone else left, my Dad and I planted the tree in his yard. It seemed a good thing to do together, a vote for the future, and perhaps also, a reminder of good memories past.
