Best grass for self-repairing bare spots?

I probably should have asked this question before I started the whole long - but interesting - thread on the blends vs KBG.

As I stated in that thread, I have a relatively nice lawn (I've gotten some nice compliments) but I am frustrated because bare spots have stayed bare all year. I don't find that the lawn fills the bare spots on its own at all, or at least not enough to keep me happy. All I know is that the lawn was originally a KBG blend from a landscaper, and I overseeded it with a blend last fall and again early this spring. Despite the overseedings, there are a few trouble spots here and there across the lawn, and I would have thought that it would have self-repaired.

So, two questions?

1) Why isn't the blend self-repairing?

2) Which type of grass is the best for self-repairing?
