Lawn Being Invaded by Vine, Will Lawn Border Help?

KendraSchmidt

A red Campsis Radicans (a trumpet vine), was planted outdoors by a previous resident, and it is now taking over the place and trying to grow from out of the bushes, and into the lawn. I want to contain this thing somehow. and at least cordon it off into the bushes, where I can focus on ripping it out or "killing" it somehow.

We're hoping to put a LAWN BORDER, to at least try and contain the vines, but the lawn border is about 8 inches in height. Is it possible for the vine to grow downward, to go eight inches below ground and beneath the lawn border to try and reach past the lawn border and grow into the yard? I'd like to know before I purchase the lawn border. Any help would be appreciated.

If it's helpful, I'm using boiling water and a shovel to try and get rid of these things.
