Redthread fungus disease

Last year I endured brown patch and this year I appear to have red thread localized in one part of my front yard. I am sure its red thread as there appears to be 1 ft round blotches of brown grass and when you look closely the tips of some of the grass in the center of the blotch are all shriveled up and appear to be red.

Anyways I sprayed Immunox on the lawn in an attempt to halt any further spreading. Is there anything else I can do? We had a very wet April / early May but now its hot (hi 80s / lo 90s) and humid.

I had this twice. I panicked the first time as it spreads fast. First, if possible, I'd mow and bag the clippings and then clean you deck and shoes. Next I'd fertilize...whatever you can get cheap. This worked well and quick the two times we had this. The Immunox may work but is EXPENSIVE as I recall.

Unfortunately I had to go out of town on business for a few days so I had some time to do some research and found out that it doesn't kill the plant which is good.

I then called the company I use to spread fertilizer and the like and they came out this morning, fertilized, put grub killer down and spread a fungicide called Eagle. At least thats what they told my wife.

I also wonder whether when I had the controller for my sprinkler system replaced a month ago whether they set the watering times too long. I will have to check that when I get back.

What you have is bacterial leaf spot. It will not kill the plant but as you can tell its unsightly.. Its caused by rain being splashed up on the plant. The spores are in the ground. You can open up air circulation and keep the area cleaned around the iris. There is a fungicide you can use.. Daconil .. but you have to spray it every 7 days or so and even then you may still have it.. One of the big growers in Oregon, let it go without treating it..

Angular fungus looks like that. It doens't cross veins so it has that pattern. I would cut off the affected leaves. Once they turn brown they aren't making food for the plant.

Hi- A few of us are located in NNJ also. We've been having the same problems as you. It's just been a bad year for lawns around here. I also applied Bayer and I think you're supposed to repeat it after 14 days. I would pull those weeds by hand making sure to get the roots and bag them up.

Is in the ground or a pot? Maybe it needs a shot of fertilizer or fresh soil. Does the soil dry out some before the next watering?

you should be ok, but I think a simple bag of fertilizer would have done the trick. I have no idea what causes it.

I have had some bad experiences with fungus in the past. The first year the lawn was in it went in late and we were forced to water more than I would have liked in order for the kids to have something to play on - well that didn't end up so well. Thats why when I saw this fungus the other day I may have over reacted a bit.

Well as I suspected, when the controller was replaced the tech set each zone at 15 minutes instead of duplicating the times that I had previously which means the area where the red thread was worst was getting way too much water.

Now I need to wait to see if the fungicide did its job.
