This problem has nothing to do with Lawn-Boy or Toro - it's something about that batch of B&S engines, which have been known as solid performers since the first power mowers. I think anyone with one of the 'Insight' mowers (which Toro is phasing out of Lawn-Boy and painting red) has a solid mower. These new LB models Toro has put in Home Depot are about as cheap as a decent mower can be, even though they incorporate features of the LB 'Insight' and the Toro 'Recycler'. With the usually reliable B&S engine, they should sell very well for Toro. I cannot imagine what is happening with the B&S engines. lb2009; if you haven't already taken it back, review the owner's manual for starting procedures and see if you're not doing something. These new B&S engines are supposed to have an automatic choke, so there's no manual choke or primer. My guess is there's an adjustment problem with that cold-enrichment system.

Hey Walt- Thanks for juming in. The engine turns over fine,it's just doesn't fire. Once it cools it runs great for a few minutes of mowing and then does as stated. I've only had the mower since early last year. I can say without doubt that I've never put straight gas in it. I use the ECHO synthetic that others here have suggested. The cables are in bad shape but otherwise the mower looks great and has been performing flawless. I hate dealing with cables. Brake and gear cables on a bike have always aggrivated me and Santa Claus. Tim

I have had dozens of these with this problem. I don't know why so many complain about the carbureators being plastic, etc. but they are so simple to work on. Just clean the carb and I usually remove the pilot jet and clean the orifices with a thin wire as well as the main jet orifice. I highly recommend installing a good gas filter like the larger Briggs clear style you can get anywhere. I have made them standard fare on my Lawn Boys for years. I don't like those "York Peppermint Patties" filters though. While you're in the carb you may want to do the minor mod on the jets (very very simple) to make her run better and less prone to clogging in the future. Walt is correct, if the dealer gave you that line, he really doesn't understand 2 cycle engines. They are incredibly simple once understood. But that can probably be said about anything in life. BTW, the elcheapo throttle control plastic detent typically breaks and I wouldn't worry about it. It is really for the idiots who can't figure out what a choke setting is. The better alum. deck models got a better throttle control, much smoother.

Some of the best drawing are on the Lawn-Boy web site. Try eBay if you are looking for a repair manual. Replacing the needle isn't a big job and you may be able to complete it without removing the carb. Rembember you are working with gasoline so have plenty of ventilation and stay away from ignition sources. This is not a project for the basement near the water heater.
