A-G Sod Farms - A-G1 Bermuda?
Comments (12)I did not mention El Toro because the varieties of Bermuda you have referenced are a lot finer textured and much darker in color. Nothing wrong with El Toro and worth considering if you have some shade issues to deal with. You did raise a red flag in my mind when you asked " Do you think it is reasonable to go with Tifway 419 and use a Walker Rotary Mower most of the time if we keep it under control? Or do I need to go with another grass? Here is the problem all the varieties you are looking at are fine and dwarf textured. Tifway-419 can be mowed with a rotary type mower as long as it is a quality one that can get down to 1-inch, but performs better between ½ to ¾ of an inch with a reel type mower. TifSport will need a reel type mower because it needs to be down around ½ inch. But here is the kicker the TifGreen or TefEagle go one step beyond a reel mower if you are serious about a putting green as they need a very expensive greens mower. A greens mower is a reel type on steroids and a precision machine requiring a lot of maintenance in the form of blade sharpening and alignment. I think you mentioned 28,000?ft2 lawn and that gets into the riding type, and if you are serious about using a fine textured Bermuda like TifSport, you need to get a riding with ganged reel mower, and a greens mower for the putting green. So think carefully about this. If you intend to maintain 2/3 of an acre of grass and cannot do this, then you need to consider another grass type that does not need to be mowed at an inch or less. Zoysia falls into this category and is maintained between 1 to 2 inches. Not to mention Zoysia grows slowly and only requires mowing every 7 to 10 days vs 2 to 3 times a week for Bermuda, and every other day for a putting green. If budget is a concern I suggest you look at Tifway-I (aka 419), only one grass I know outperforms in its class which is TifSport. However Tifway in my area sells for 65 to 85 per pallet, and Tifsport 2 to 3 times that cost. I sure hope you have an idea how much TifGreen and TifEagle go for, prices vary from 500 to 900 per pallet....See MoreMowing Length of Newly Established Celebration Bermuda
Comments (5)OK let's first define Scalping because it has two different meanings based on context. 1. In early Spring should scalp our Bermuda and Zoysia to remove the dead straw colored grass from the previous season to promote early green up, remove some thatch, and a good way to control spring weeds. 2. Unfortunately every Bermuda and Zoysia owners will at some time scalp the lawn in the summer. I do not mean cutting it to the ground, I mean removing too much at one time leaving you with a brown lawn. The root cause is too long of a period between mowing. It happens to everyone with a Bermuda or Zoysia lawn. Something comes up like vacation or biz taking your time and you miss time to mow. It is normal. In Summer time, especially after a rain, Bermuda grows real fast. So fast you can almost see and hear it growing. OK to answer your question your Celebration Bermuda should be maintained as low as .5 inches and no more than 1.5 inches to keep it in peak condition. OK you have let it go beyond that, no problem just gradually take it down by not exceeding the 1/3 rule. That means mowing every other day lowering the height one click at a time until you get where you want The 1/3 rule does apply so chose your cutting height wisely. If maintained at .5 inch means mowing just about every day because Bermuda grass can grow .25 inch in a day. At 1 inch means about every other day, and 1.5 inch every 3 or 4 days. So keep that in mind and know what you are asking for....See MoreHelp with my Bermuda lawn...
Comments (17)Well there is mid term solutions, and short term solutions. Mid term is dig up the offending roots, but they will be back in a few years unless the source is eliminated. That is not easy medicine to take. Short term is you can add or build up the grade in that area by adding top soil. But within a year or two the tree roots will grow up from beneath and choke the grass. That is the problem with trees and lawns, they are in conflict some times depending on the type of tree. Example if you have a fruitless Mulberry, you got a huge problem on your hands. Not only can your lawn be threatened but also your home even if the tree is 50 feet away. Eventually the roots will find your plumbing and foundation and bust them to pieces. Fruitless Mulberries love septic systems....See MoreWater/Care for New Sod (Celebration)
Comments (7)Defs looks like 2 lots. Could be different farms. Once everything is growing into your soil, the colors should adjust. I would not walk on it to do anything until roots are in the soil. The chance of pieces shifting is too great before that. I would not back off on the frequent watering until then. Your fertilizer is still sitting in soil that the roots have not grown into yet. Assuming Dr Earth is organic, then the goodness is still there. No need to fertilize again until you have mowed new growth for the second time. Spot spray weeds with Weed-b-Gon Chickweed, Clover, and Oxalis Killer. Violets need the extra oomph from the WBGCCO. Keep after them. Seeds will continue to sprout new plants. Eventually they will run out of seeds. Check YouTube for chipmunk traps. There should be some that lure them up and into a 5-gallon bucket of water....See Moredamiami
