I bought two Haskap(Honeyberry)subspecies,emphyllocalyx from Maxine Thompson,where she had a table at the Orchard Show in Canby,Oregon last Fall.She has done extensive work with this plant from Japan. I was hesitant to get Honeyberry from any seller because of some reports of them being somewhat sour.She said maybe people were picking them too soon and the Japanese ones were better suited to a more moderate climate than the Russian species. I have never tried a Honeyberry,but am looking forward to it.The ones I have are just starting to bud.I'm not sure if it's male and female that are needed for fruiting.What I think Maxine said,that it took two "different" plants.Maybe like Blueberries or some kinds of fruit trees. Your Peach trees are probably going to need to be sprayed to help keep Peach Leaf Curl at bay.Either Copper or something with Chlorothalonil in it,I used the Bonide brand on a Nectarine and just a little PLC is showing. Peat moss will help acidify the planting mix for Blueberries and the Pawpaws. A simple framework or trellis can be made for the brambles,maybe something circular and fixed in the potting mix for the canes to be wrapped onto. Thank's for the feedback. I only have the 1 plant but I guess from everything I've read I'm doing all the right things. It's happy right now, just not putting out the berries. I can wait. Your seedlings look great, Rick. If I can figure out how to download a photo of my plant, I'll send it along next time. It's also nice to know that you're having luck up there in CT. How does your plant do during the winter months inside? Any special heat lighting involved? Has it bloomed during the winter months? And Regine, your plant is 25 yrs. old?! That's also encouraging. I have some older plants around here but nothing that ripe old age. That's terrific that the miracle plant has hold on for so long. Your thumbs must be very green. Thanks again. Aloha, I came across this site and took notice everyone sharing stories concerning their Miracle Berry Plant. I am also new to growing this interesting plant. Now, living East Coast in Zone 8b which I have to baby my plant as its more of a tropical plant and will not survive the weather out here. Currently my plant is in a 5 gallon container with 80% Peat & 20% Perlite. It's stored indoors on a partly sunny patio and during winter its in a double wrapped clear plastic bag fully covered. Unsure about fertilizer but did a solution mix with Fish emulsion and distilled water. I didn't want to take any chances with tap water due to chemicals or any type of water treatment kit from Home Depot. I just went and bought a gallon of Distilled Water from my local Walmart store which seem to work a lot better. I usually water mines from the bottom of pot over top watering. But will look into Blood Meal as it's not as potent in smell over the Fish Emulsion bottle. Thanks for any feedback greatly appreciated. Mahalo
