First impressions of my LB 10695 (10672 in Canada)

After much dithering and questions I purchased the LB 10695 (10672 in Canada at Home Depot). It works well and is certainly easy to use EXCEPT in the case of my back yard which is heavily landscaped with lots of curving raised beds of limestone rock, numerous tree's and shrubs etc. There isn't a straight area anywhere back there. With 20/20 hindsight I would probably have been better off with those caster wheels on front specifically the Ariens that you can lock them on the fly from up on the handle. However it was very high priced here in Canada and would have tipped $1000 after taxes whereas I got the LB with an added 1 yr warranty and $100 gift card back almost for "free" by using some built up credit card points. My cash outlay for it was about $100. It sells for $649 Cdn. Anyways, what's done is done, I'm keeping it at that price. I like the Sensa Speed and I especially like the folding handle design for removing the bag. My intentions are to mulch after the intial few cuts once the grass is growing at a steady pace which it's not right now after the fertilizing. One other minor quibble is that it's louder than I thought it would be for having a Honda engine though I didn't expect silence LOL

Okay, you got me with this one - you don't have to touch the handle for removing the bag - it just pulls straight up through the opening in the handle. ???

Sounds like you got a terrific buy on a great mower. I'm surprised its loud - what were you using before to compare it too?

They are rather loud saxman. My pop bought one about 3 years ago with the Honda, and I too was VERY surprised on how loud the exhuast note was! Another thing, Honda has those leaned out to the point of you having to hold the auto choke lever open for an additonal 5 to 10 secs when you first start the engine cold on cool mornings, in the fall etc. This really peaved my Dad as he was about to trade it in when he first got it. He called back to the dealer where he got it and even other local shops, and they claimed the same thing. Cold natured, not to mention stepping back about 30 years as far as reaching over a running mower to hold a lever with the blade spinning around at your toes but then again, some of us ol' faithful LB owners wouldn't have it any other way, would we?!

They had slices of Ambrosia apples for tasting at Kroger's here the other day, trying to promote it, as it was a featured product in the ad this week, $1.69 a lb iirc. I was very underwhelmed by the slice I tasted, it wasn't even a good apple. That being said, as you pointed out, Konrad, apples can vary a whole lot from orchard to orchard, tree to tree, or season to season. Then, in commercial channels, you also have to factor in the effects of storage and handling techniques. And, finally, everyone has their own taste preferences in things. Probably, despite my tasting experience with one slice, I would say that under the right conditions, this could be a really good apple, since I think almost any variety has that potential. SOMEONE must have thought it special enough to grow it commercially, after all.

Hi, great to see the Meyer is on the way back! I am in NorCal and have had this happen to me (oranges, lemons, and limes) last August (when it hit 102F a few days in a row). I (over)fed them and failed to keep the soil wet. If the Meyer is showing any signs of dehydration even through you are watering / and / or Unless you have definitive proof (soil analysis) of nutrient deficient soil, I'd not add any fertilizer until you get 3-4" of new branch growth. Heavy blooming is a classic stage of recovery from drought and shock. It is much too easy to over-fertilize. A dose of fertilizer raises the salt level of the soil and can quickly dehydrate the plant if you do not keep the ground wet. Just like your lawn, you cannot let it dry out after dosing it with fertilizer. Burned / damaged roots cannot absorb nutrients and by adding more fertilizer you will just more roots. I have a Sanguinelli Orange that looked far worse from two years of steady dosing of organic fertilizer... i stopped the feeding last August, flushed the soil, and transplanted 2 months ago it to fresh soil (without adding anything). Lo and behold it is just starting to push loads of buds. I have a Valencia that suffered through multiple transplants and aggressive feedings. It has about a dozen leaves and is (finally) starting to show nubs of new growth, but looking dehydrated even though its been watered. i think it will pull it and replace the soil this week. Hi Marie!! So nice to see you!! I hope you are doing well and that your collection had rebound from your loss years ago. It was a hard winter again for us this year and I did have damage to a few Palm trees, but they finally made a come back.. Hoping they will again. You are so funny about my Plumeria collection! I do have it bad and I have been really good about trying to select and thin down, but its not working to well. I do have a few and thanks to LISA! ;-). She has called me out on how many I have since we had a fun contest over there at the Plumeria forum a few days ago. I had to admit how many I had.., It was a blast ! Lisa is a new Plumeria enthusiast and I'm trying to help her along .... We all remember those who come forward and help instead of lurking and being over helping out. It does mean a lot to them and it certainly makes me feel good. So Marie.. Are your trees doing well? Have you added to your COT collection too? I haven't been over to the Adenoum forum lately.. I really need to go over and say hi! I did count my collection the others day since we are changing up my backyard deck area. We made some benches to add to the side yard to place some of my trees on. Some of my friends call them bleachers LOL!!!! I'm really glad to hear from you. I haven't been on the forums to much and I try to get back to say hello to my friends. Just sent Pug a few trees last year and she just sent a pic of how they are leafing out.. I am so pleased.. Thanks for that link - I've looked at it over and over (found it when searching myself) and Maddie copied from it, I believe. I realized I was confused because part way down the list, it switches to items allowed from other countries (not the US) and says milk is prohibited: Dairy products cheese: up to 20 kilograms per person Please note that quantities in excess of $20.00 may be subject to high rates of duty. The CBSA is responsible for determining customs and duties for items coming into Canada. These items are not allowed milk milk products (whey, cream, skim milk, butter oil, and so on) in these forms: dried, frozen, reconstituted, or fresh I didn't notice the heading change so was VERY confused! Now I think I have it straight. I tried to follow the link to inside the link to get specific fruit and vegetable info, but it's impossible to use (at least from my Mac). I'll just not spend $10 on organic cherries and risk having to discard them. I'll put some raisins and dried apples in his pack. I realized I'll want to go to the grocery anyway before we leave so I can get some Sultanas and Ketchup flavored potato chips to bring back for my friends!

When I said it's loud it might be just the pitch of the exhaust and not be any louder than other ones. I can't say because I've been using a lawn tractor for the last 14 years at our old place so I have nothing to compare it to.

The bag does lift straight up and out but for a very minor reason it just seems easier to swing the handle right out of the way, especially for putting it back on. It's very trivial I know and in fact it's an extra step to step on the lever and move the handle but for some reason it just makes it seem easier, if that makes any sense.. LOL

You're are correct pkguy. The pitch is considerable higher than most of the newer engines now days. Not annoying really, just much "rappier" than my Toro Super Recycler with the Briggs 6 hp was. Gave it to my brother. Bought it new in 98'-was a great mower, mulched nice!

Maybe they use a different muffler on the Honda mowers with the same engine, although it looks the same. The one I had was the quietest mower I've had. I hear they (Honda) have fixed the lean start problem on the automatic choke.

Don't make the mistake of thinking I am one of those. I'm not 'faithful' to any brand. I like the Insight mowers Lawn-Boy is now making but prefer the Tecumseh to the GCV 160. I'll have to make it a point to check out a non-Honda mower with the GCV 160 engine to see if its really as loud as the Tecumseh. I don't think it will be.

That's quite a mowing set you got there, pkguy. Nice 10795 (got my eye on that one, too). And I've got a few of those furred mulching models myself.
