Both are good. You can spread them directly on the lawn and garden or compost them. don't spread them too thickly because they can repel water if they're too thick.

The reason coffee grounds get more notice is that it's usually easier to get coffee grounds than tea in quantity.

Drying is just a question of ease of application. If you can get them where you want them before they are dry, no problem. So long as you don't put out so much of them as to smother something, of course.

Tea is made from leaves that typically have no protein. Coffee is made from beans which typically have protein amounts similar to corn. If she has limited room to bring stuff home, take all the coffee first.

They provide organic matter and are also a mild fertilizer (about 1% - 2% N). Starbucks gives them away for free, so if there's a Starbucks convenient to you and you have a small lawn, you can take care of fertilizing the lawn for free. Since they're fairly low in N, they're not that practical for a large lawn.
