Comments (7)What bpgreen said re Roundup, it breaks down very quickly. With broad leaf herbicides, It will also depend on how they spray. Spot spraying, using a hand-sprayer and only hitting the weed and a bit of the surrounding grass is a lot different than using a lawn tractor and a big spray boom and spraying the whole, entire yard. With spot spraying, the concentration in the grass clippings of the whole lawn would be fairly diluted. I wouldn't use grass clippings from that latter kind of spraying at all, for anything....See Morewhat weed killer will work on Root Beer plant and 4 o'clocks ?
Comments (17)20% vinegar is very, very caustic. It's drain-o strong. Wear full protection when you use it and be really careful about not getting it on you. It will also STERILIZE the soil. I use it for "crack weeds" in the sidewalk only. I like the "paint"(or use a tiny spray like Roselee does) roundup/herbicide method it only kills what you're aiming to kill and doesn't get herbicide where it isn't needed/wanted. It's much less stressful on the environment and a lot less expensive. Label the heck outta your spray bottle too. I've had to take away my BT (empty) bottle away from the kids wanting to use it as a squirt bottle. I put warnings they can understand (the youngest one) on it now. PJ...See MoreWeed killers?
Comments (1)Most all "weeds" are broad leaf and the poisons in the "fertilizers" are formuated for broad leaf "weeds", or any plant not grass. Crab grass is different and those controls are fairly specific for crab grass, but most all the broad leaf "weed" killers will kill any broad leafed plant, including milkweed. Seldom are these things really needed since good lawn care will keep most all "weeds" from growing in healthy turf stands. Mow high, which helps shade the soil so "weed" seeds do not get the sun most need for germination, and exposes more grass leaf to the sun so they manufacture more nutrients to feed the grass corwn which will in turn send out more grass blades to pick up more sun to manufacture more nutrients, so the turf grows thicker and crowds out the "weeds" that might try to grow there....See MoreBroad-leaf killer and ferns
Comments (3)This is an old thread, but do not agree with the answer. Not all the chemicals to control broadleef weeds affect ferns e.g. 2-4-D has little effect. Look up the chemicals which are used to control ferns, and if they are mentioned in a broad leaf control, don't use it. Stick to a specific chemical and experiment on a small area to prove it works on weeds and does not affect the ferns. Start with 2-4D....See Moregrass1950
