I hit the jackpot---

Yesterday, at church, a friend asked if I had been to the 'yard sale' at the fairgrounds. Had not even heard about it. She said everything would be half price on Sunday. Well, Son-in-law and I went-DD had to work.

Started putting things in a box,and then they made the announcement--'come get a bag, everything fitted in a bag for $1'! Plastic 'thank you' bags.

I ended up with a metal daybed for $2, 2 chandys-

1.50 and 2.00 and 12 (that's right-twelve) bags-$17.50 totol. And I do know how to pack a bag! LOL

Sorry that I can't post pictures. My 'good' camera no longer works and my 'new' small camera is LOST-the old woman probably took it. SIL likes junk, but knows how much I already have and was a little disgruntled that I bought so much. I asked him how much a movie ticket costs, and said that I got more pleasure from 12 bags of junk, than 2 movie tickets!! Most of it is still in my new car--it holds a LOT! I could have put a few more bags in and probably would have if I had been by myself!

On Saturday, I went to the flea Mkt and spent about $20 on stuff. (I found a couple of the small glass leaves like we saw last week). Now if I can just stay away from the computer and start putting things together..... It's after 9 AM and here I sit..Times awasting-LOL.

OH how I would love pics!!! Sounds like you found some fantastic bargains. New car filled with fantastic finds.... THE JOY OF IT ALL!!!

Please borrow a camera and take a pic of what you've made once you've made whatever. Pretty please.

9AM, eh? I'm usually still in bed at 9AM. I really have to change my lifestyle and get to bed earlier.

Good for you, nona! Wow! That is a JACKPOT!!! Better than the 15% off brown bag sales at Menards! Now have fun!!! And, like Cait said, pics, please! (of your projects)! It's a good thing all of us GJers weren't by your side! WOW! That could have been a stampede! Jeanne S.

I agree if the worms are healthy it's OK. Bleach would be used up pretty quickly reacting with all that organic matter, and assuming it does break down to NaCl, it's not that much salt considering bleach is only 5% by weight to begin with. I'm not sure why anyone would recommend putting bleach on a stump, though. You want the fungi and bacteria and grubs and beetles in the soil to break down the stump, and bleach is not going to make any of them work faster. Quite the contrary. Last stump I had, I drilled 3/4" holes into half of it and filled them with fertilizer. That half of the stump broke down twice as fast as the other half. If your stump was stinky, it could be the type of tree. Was this an oak tree or what?

I am so VERY lucky! Renée, the poppers were gone by the end of the 2nd day! I ate them all in 2 sittings, I'm embarrassed to say!! I enjoyed taking the pictures! The kids just cannot understand why I keep getting presents from my "Secret Santa!" [I don't even quite know how they understand the concept of "Secret Santa" (as we're Jewish!), but they do!] The DOROT cookbook is FABULOUS! I keep reading and reading it. It is so rich in stories, the recipes are almost incidental! I truly enjoy the reading and will continue to read and even reread! Renée, again, I am so greatly appreciative of everything! Thank you! Dawn, Yes, you may have found the mother-lode we all dream of. Pity, you weren't early enough to bag the cabs, but take what you can get! Anyway, yes, a lot of the parts can be recycled; windows, trim, flooring, stairs, etc., and if you can get permission it might be very cost effective to hire someone who knows how to dissassemble the whole house. To find someone with those skills I'd start with your local historical society, and local house museums, etc. These people maybe able to put you on to people who know how to do this in a way that keeps the materials useable. There may be some help in the phone book, but many demolition people are just rip it/ crush it guys, so they may not be what you want. But there are people who specialize in disassembly of houses. They will come with The tools, skills, and appreciation, and probably most important to the bank, the liability insurance, for the job. Taking out a few cabs is one thing, but when you start to get into structural parts, then you really need to know what you're doing. If you can get this organized, maybe the bank would appreciate a little public applause for allowing you to "save" a building. (Don't go public, 'til you've got it nailed down, though!) If it were me, and I had the storage space, I would save the entire thing, or at least as much as is salvageable. You never know when you're going to be in the mood to add an addition..... Worst case you can re-sell some parts, later. Good luck, and please let us know what happens and how you decide to go. Rescuing a house is probably the dream we all secretly have when we take on one of these structures. Lord knows it would be easier to simply buy a new one, but somehow the older beauties catch our eye and we are hopelessly smitten. To find a salvageable clone, would be a dream come true for most of us! Molly~

I did and at cliq studio and a few others but my husband wants ones fully assembled rather than need to be assembled. Tomorrow the Amish cabinets company are coming to measure and give me an estimate. That will give me a few different options. The workers are BACK!! Yesterday we finally received a check from the mortgage company for a portion of our money. Good grief what an ordeal. And instead of the check being made out just to us it's made out to us and our contractors company. So he endorsed it and gave me a copy of his business w9 with his signature on it. We go to our bank and immediately there's a problem. We are told it can't be deposited into our account it must be deposited into the contractor business account. We went round and round. Nope not budging. We don't owe that amount to the contractor it's our money not his. Well we had to call him to come to the bank and deposit our entire check into his account. Now please tell me how this protects me the homeowner? This is how contractors are running off with huge sums of money! So all the money is in his account. We trust him and hopefully he will deposit our money back into our account today but good grief what happens if he doesn't. I just think this is the most ridiculous display of stupidity. What do you think the mortgage company would do if that happens and we have no funds to fix the house because this position they are putting homeowners in that's a definite possibility. No doubt they would come after the homeowner. I hope my contractor deposits my money!

How often do they have those fairgrounds YS? Sounds like my cup of tea.
I went to T&W flea market and didn't buy a thing last Saturday. Prices were high.

Wow!! Great Junk day for you!! Hope that isn't Orange County Fairgrounds as they said tonight it was going to be sold to met the budget!!I want to know how you got a daybed in a bag!!! Was it a dollhouse size? Hope you find your camera!! We'd love pics!! Jan

That's why I priced the 2 chandy's and the bed
separately in my first post. They were half
priced items.
Nursemaid, I was at T&W flea mkt on Saturday too!
We might have passed each other-grin! I don't go to T&W often tho'.
I spent about $10. Got 2 large gourds to paint for $1 each.
Also a SET of 3 blue and white plates, 3 salad
plates and a cup for $3. A milk glass bud vase for
50 cents and 3 light covers for $1. Can't remember
what else. Across 'T' Street there is a church
rummage sale every week too. I get a few good
buys there. Like a sifter for 50 cents. You and
I will need to meet for lunch!

Yesterday I met CJ of CJCrafts at Ryan's for lunch.
She's on HGTV holiday crafts message board and used
to live in Milton. Does crafts shows. She brought
nice crafts to show me.

Jeanne, I LOVE Menard's! That's the first place I want to go when I get to the cabin in Indiana! That and Rural King.
We don't have either in Pensacola. I even have a menard's credit card-LOL
Sunny, Orange county fairgrounds are a LONG way from me--
probably a 12 hour drive....Sorry it may be closing. I guess that's why ours is having Gospel singings, flea mkt stuff, and knife shows, etc--to keep up with the overhead.
