Hitting the Right Note With Pianos
When my husband and I got married, my grandma passed on the Wurlitzer piano her husband bought her when they were first married. The gesture meant the world, the piece is so nostalgic, I love busting out Beethoven after dinner--but how to stylishly integrate such a large piece into a home?
Yes, yes, the right piano is art in and of itself, aside from its actual purpose. Here are some fabulous examples of pianos themselves and the rooms they inhabit--these spaces make visual music.

I adore the chalky painting in the background, tying in the dark wood of both the piano and the chair legs. These elements create a very put-together (without overly formal) look. The piano definitely belongs in this small salon, but has its own space in this segmented but well-flowing room. For even less formal elegance, the painting could be a chalkboard panel for children (and adults) to enjoy.
In the absence of a traditional full-size piano, you can use a weighted keyboard (which means that the keys are sensitive to finger pressure like on a piano) and create a music center just the same. Look how cute.
