My lawn

Extreme drought was brutal to my lawn last year. Due to other interests, the time, effort, and money spent on my lawn is rather limited. I live in a very rural area adjacent to a lightly-traveled paved public road. About 0.3 miles away, a Mexican is buying on lease-purchase a 9 acre tract. Cleared and pastured most of it with at least 3 horses there. Must be at least 20 people living there. Ride their horses along this road. They galloped through my lawn about two years ago the day after a rain, leaving huge divots and deep hoof prints. Continue to do so. Some don't speak English and the one that does just smart-mouths. I have told them to just ride on the actual roadway along the area that I mow. I do not need the work to repair they mess they leave, not to mention the problems for my mower. Requests to the riders are not working, law enforcement is no help. Just two deputies patrolling 466 square miles. The whole story is much longer, more about that later, perhaps. Have any of you experienced vandalism to your lawn? How did you deal with it?

Use post hole diggers to put up fence posts. then shop around for years to find the post. they will get tired of that.

Please allow me to explain some facts about the different types of sand. As a contractor and someone who has worked in a concrete plant you better know what type of snd you need for the job you are doing. With that said lets began. Sand is either dug up in a quarry or dredged from a pond, lake or a sand quarry that they hit a spring in and filled with water. All commercial sand is washed so it can be graded for size and type. You have to go out and dig up your own if you want to get unwashed sand ( which is not recommended for landscaping ) to be used as fill sand or what we call sandbox sand. First thing to fall out of the washer is mason sand. Next is concrete sand followed by fill sand which contains some clay. Next is gravel base and is made-up of lots of clay and small gravel.This is what you typically find on ball diamonds and clay tennis courts or as a base for a gravel driveway or path through your garden. It can be packed down so hard you would think it was concrete with a colored dye in it untill it rains. Dogs, cats, kids and husbands get in quite a bit of trouble when it rains because of this stuff. Next is pea gravel. This can be used to cover the gravel base or partly fill holes like lateral lines where you need good drainage or placed under downspouts to keep the water from making a canyon of you lawn and it gives it a decorative look. Just remember to use something to keep the gravel in place or your mower becomes a machine gun when you mow around It. A lot of people use it in flower beds and around the base of trees too for decorative look. Rock gardens look neat and pea gravel mixed with river rock works well for this. Next comes river rock. Used as I just mentioned in place of the pea gravel ecept not on lateral lines or sewer pipes or any other underground lines and pipes. Although it does work well for drip irrigation or soaker hose. Then the last is river stone. Good for decorative landscaping and filling in wash outs or anywhere you need the water not to erode the ground beneath them.

Thank you for your reply. Trust me, I'm not using a lawn company anymore. I was planning on doing it myself but it was recommended by a family member that I use a lawn company. Now I know that was not a good choice. I actually spoke with a service manager today and he told me they would replace my sod if it dies.

That looks matted down, but it's difficult to determine if it was because the grass was wet or not. I'd say not. Grasses that were very long and then cut can sometimes do that as the wheels of the mower crush them down and they don't stand up before the mower's passage. In this case, it looks like they aren't standing up even several hours afterward! Was the grass very long? Did you get a small amount of rain after a dry spell (it doesn't look like it, but one never knows)? Is the bottom deck of the mower clogged with matted grass? That can keep the suction of the mower from being able to pull the grass up into the blades.

The fencing suggestion was offered with the best of intentions, I am sure. Fencing would, in my opinion, ruin the appearance of my property. Fences require maintenance, most of them quite a lot. Fences cost money and require installation labor, typically quite a lot. Fences complicate mowing. Repairing my turf requires labor. And I personally should do all this so that these jerks can have a few seconds of pleasure in the the 300 feet along the road frontage that I keep as lawn? My efforts will be directed at changing their behavior.

Sorry about the fence suggestion now knowing how you feel about it. Your last statement I don't understand though. A fence would change their behavior, as would any other deterent, for which I will suggest lining the property with large rocks though I'm afraid I'll soon regret that suggestion, too. I don't know anything that is free, requires no labor, and would neither enhance nor distract from the scenery, and I can't be sure what to suggest based on your last statement except mind control by remote access. LOL

Seriously though, I really shouldn't be responding at all since I have never experienced this problem.

I do not recall previously posting this question on this forum. But it is possible. I did post earlier on a horse-related forum and at least 50% of those folks approved of such riding of horses on the lawns of others. People of this type behavior are typically the very first to demand that others respect them and their property. Ordinary communication has had a limited effect. Looks as if I must make them an offer they cannot refuse.

thanks for the racist tonality of your responses..First of all, there is NO language barriers in our great USA..Although we do speak English and its a mainly English speaking country, this country was founded on foreigners - 1st - the SPANISH, then others came tagging along..We all originally came here to get away from persecution and freedom. Dont bring down our country. When I hear a chinese person speaking chinese, or an italian speaking in their native tongue, a french speaking in their native tongue..I AM PROUD to see this - I dont go telling them HEY THIS IS AMERICA SPEAK ENGLISH - like its some law. Granted it makes sense to learn it and speak it but nevertheless, there is NO OFFICIAL LANGUAGE in the USA..tired of why people do this..what a waste - hypocrites - whats the point of being in the USA.

I'm all for English being the official language and if I was the president of USA, I'd make a law requiring all the immigrants learn it first before they get here. I'm sick of spending my tax money on those illegal immigrants who can't speak English and stealing away jobs from us and don't even pay taxes....

Not sure where you are, but the majority of horses will not go near areas that smell strongly (to them "strongly" is barely noticeable to humans)of local predator.
When I rode in ID & MT it was Bear, in OH, horses shy from coyote ares, etc.
There are places that specialize in "scents", just choose one or more (Bobcat, Coyote, Bear, etc.) just for fun, and make an invisible fence.
It ain't cheap, but a drop of that stuff goes a long way! and if it works well, it could be more fun to watch than TV. The best part is, nobody gets hurt and you make no enemies!

Barb's idea is really good. I wonder if they'd like the smell of Milorganite... It's somewhat pungent to me, I can't imagine what an animal that uses its nose more than I do would think about it.

Any of the products built to repel animals would probably work to some extent.

Except that you probably shouldn't go into the stable after dark. They know who you are and what you did.
