What is it really (the old pothos/philodendron confusion)
Comments (10)Jon, The old name, haha. I could understand why 'Micans' is just another cultivar, although it's texture does set it apart from the others IMO. Kwie, Yes, hederaceum is a species of Philodendron. There are different "cultivars" of P. hederaceum, including 'Brazil' and 'Micans. The plain green variety, which is known as 'Heart-Leaf' doesn't really have a cultivar name per say (unless you want to look at 'Heart-Leaf' as a cultivar name). There are "self-heading" cultivars of Philodendron such as 'Prince of Orange, 'Moonlight, and 'Black Cadrinal.' These do not vine like your "average" Philodendron. Despite the possible connection with header and hederaceum, these are not the same species as the vining ones (P. hederaceum). Below is my 'Moonlight.' You can see how it's growth habit is different, but it is a Philodendron. Comments (21)This Schefflera is finally starting to put out some new growth. Got it for $12 at Lowes the day before Christmas. Repotted a month ago into 5:1:1. Hasn't done anything since I bought it. Glad to finally see something happening. These two little ficus alii cuttings are also putting out some new growth too. This asparagus fern won't stop climbing. this fern below wasn't looking so great due to lack of light and humidity. I moved it into the room with lots of light and high humidity. I removed all of the older growth and two months later it's starting to fill out and look much better. Dember 2015 Today. Below is all fresh growth this winter. These dracaena's always seem to do well no matter what Peace lily never stops flowering. Needs a repot badly...See MoreCurious about how Upright Elephant Ear / Alocasia odora bulbs grow?
Comments (29)Mimulus, what soil mix have you tried with the odora? Alocasias are adaptable but don't like 'wet feet' or very dry conditions. Here in central Fla I let the mix dry to an inch or two before watering, but daily rainy spells doesn't seem to bother them. I have mine in a mix of primarily unsifted pine bark mulch (from WalMart), with a little peat moss or styrofoam balls and a little perlite. I've successfully grown them in many other mixes using various proportions of Miracle-Gro, peat moss, pine bark mulch, perlite and/or vermiculite. They're really not too particular as long as the mix has air spaces and drains well. It would help if you turn on your Messaging. My email is bluesea14808@yahoo.com. If your interested in trades, I have quite a few alocasias and colocasias, including A. macrorhizos variegata. Also have a large collection of philodendrons, aglaonemas and other aroids, and sansevierias. Russ...See MoreTiffany, purpleinopp Z8b Opp, AL
