Yard Art - You Bet cha!!!!

This is called a Redneck Mansion. No this is not my home. I see this as simply an amazing trash to treasure kitch creation. I can imagine it full of empty nesters all creating garden junk on vacation. As far as I know this construction is an original idea. Has anyone ever seen another like this before? It even has garden junk! Does anyone know where this is?

There is a whole web area that shows pics of these...red neck homes (or trailer trash) or I think they were in different town so can not tell you where this is.

I love it too. Do you know where it is? My dh and dd were quite fascinated too. Tho (foster) dd is a country girl from birth so she is less into high rises.

Here they are! They're oils, and their finish reflects light, so I had to take the photos at an angle or the flash would glare off them. It makes the perspective look a little screwy, but you'll get the general idea. The first is my big picture, just over 2'X 3'. I really like it, it's well done and the colors are perfect, but it's a little more conventional than what I would have envisioned if I had actually envisioned anything. I like the off-center, skewed bowl, though, and the blue accents. In our house, the living room and kitchen are open to one another- kitchen is the same orange that's in the peach and grape highlights, and the lrm is the caramel/gold you can see on the right of the photo, (matches the pic, also.) The spot where I shot this is where the fireplace is going to go. The painting's actually a little large for where I wanted it...This is a "kitchen picture", but I really wanted something this size for the living room. I didn't find that elusive perfect thing. (Older DD took immense pleasure in watching me in action at the art show. She said it was gratifying to see me be the one torn with indecision, because I'm usually the "go, get what I want and get out" type of shopper. Honestly, picking out flooring, tile, light fixtures and counter-top were all a breeze compared to finding the right art piece.) Anyway, I think I'll probably put this up from late summer until time for Christmas decorating. It's got a good autumnal feel. Second is a small pic that fits in a little nook. It, too, is pretty conventional (the ol' Dutch Masters, less the bugs and chewed leaves) but for 12 bucks, I couldn't resist. I had been debating between the above painting, and this slightly larger, less formal one. DD (pushy girl!) suggested I take both. Her birthday is coming up soon, and she fell in love with a couple pieces herself, so we got them for her...but she has to wait to get them! Each of the paintings was the only one in the place done in it's style. She's the first to admit that this painting is not her usual style, but she fell in love with it anyway. It's very textural, with thick, troweled-on paint...two little schoolgirls: She got to go to Europe the year before last, and fell in love with Venice, so this black and white painting called to her: (She got cooler stuff than I did, but I'm stuck with trying to coordinate what I've got...she hasn't even picked her paint yet.) Little DD got her very first painting, too. She went impressionist, bless her heart! The people putting on the sale gave the kids each a frame for almost nothing ($5) -- said they wanted to encourage young art appreciators. I'll put a link in to the prints I'd like for the living room. I'm kind of spoiled by the cheap stuff, now-- I hate the thought of paying $189 each for a pair of giclées when I could have had oils that size for barely over 1/4 the cost! @dizzyizzy I haven't tried this (they are fabulous, so much talent around here) but I think it depends how much effort you want to put in and where your located. We have an architectural salvage store where you could walk in and buy an older window anywhere from $30-$100+ depending on size, condition, # of panes, etc. Easy but you're paying for it. You could also check out Craigslist. I've seen them on there from $5-$50+. Less expensive but more hit or miss. Then you could look around on trash day or look for a remodel job and score them at the curb for free. I like the last option. Part of the fun is the hunt.

Marlene...sounds like your DH is very artistic in his own right...I would love to see photos of what he's done as well. I may have to see if I can find some of your older posts. Jeanne...The stems and leaves are so pretty. That actually caught my eye over the flower. Because the sun light plays off the paint and catches your eye. Jan...Yes the dreaded black walnut, so glad that I can finally have success with the flower beds now that I know that it wasn't "me"...so much as my ignorance of the black walnut. I just went and measured their width across...the top two in my photos are just over a foot and a half. The flower with the tongue is almost 3 foot across. Hope that helps a few inspiring welders out there. The guy that makes these...actually was laid off from his job and did this to help support his family. He is amazed at how well it's taken off and how in demand these are. He can't even get enough made up for craft shows. Because they are in such high demand that he's trying to just keep up with orders that ones already want and have placed.

Thanks all! I am so glad you like it and for all the kind words. I bought it at Lowes (or HD?) on there sale table for $10. It originally was a brownish-metal color. Kinda boring and not what I was looking for. The first step was removing all the wires. Pretty easy task but time consuming. Make sure you save all the nuts, washers and bolts. This unit actually had a large bottom piece that I removed as I wanted a small chandelier. So, I used a shorter tube close the gaps. I hung it outside for a while trying to figure out how to best use it with candles - a little trial and error process to get the final results. Then I spray painted it white from some leftover can of paint I had. I bought 2 pkgs of chandelier crystals (most expensive part of the process). The hardest part was modifying the candlabra piece to hold a candle or tea light. It was a fun little project. I enjoyed working on it.

Well, heck, I guess I live in a redneck mansion Mine is a 30ft 5th wheel, on blocks, with huge carport over it. I have a lovely porch and fireplace. And right next to it is another carport thats an outdoor kitchen and dining area, and will be screened in soon. Yep, I'm a redneck, I haven't been reduced to planting toilets in my yard, but by the looks of some of the moasiac ones, I might not be far from it.

Thanks Kathy Primrose- I was hoping these were a place to go on vacation in the USA!!! I would love it.

Dulcimer- I've seen yours and it is like living on vacation!!!! My empty nester sis is thinking about a setup like yours. They are in their 5th wheel every possible minute. The mosaic toilets are wild and fun but it takes a lot of work. Susie

I think it's cool!! Using what they have!! Now people are buying shipping containers that they ship all that stuff from China in over to us. Seems it is too costly to take them back so they are selling them. GF's son bought 1 for storage for his business. I've seen them made into houses. They are all steel I think except I think she said a wooden floor. They come in about 3 sizes. Great for folks who have property & not much money. Jan

I thought it would make a cool vacation destination too. But learned it was a set for a play at the Theater het Amsterdam Bos. What a cool set for a play!

Well I think it is kind of cool, as someone said for a little retirement community. Each has their own space and it looks like each is personalized. I am not one who likes big rambling houses, so this I should show my son so he can get started on his mothers retirement home. LOL

Too cool! Love all the different trailers! Hey, I love trailers....my DH and I lived in one for the first nine years we were married...and I'll tell you, sometimes I wish we still did! We are campers though and love our "little" house! Thanks for sharing this site with us!

Concreteprimroses thanks for that link. I always go to snopes .com to clue in my mom and a certan friend who sends me these stupid email and I cannot copy and paste at snopes,they won't allow it. My mom does not know how to even copy and paste the snopes website so my words go unnoticed. Now I can copy and paste the false accusation of those chain letters they keep sending her(who then sends them to me ACK!)
I love the redneck mansion by the way,I saw one similar on a raft and they called it a redneck yacht,
My daughter went to her redneck friend's wedding. Even though my daughter is a country gal you she couldnot believe the appetizers. Someone walked around and threw bags of cheese doodles at everyones place setting!!!

When we were in Nawlins we looked at a trailer like sample home that was being suggested for emergencys. It was small but had so many cool features including passive and active solar and a wall in the living room that opened down to make a deck! That wouldn't work here in black fly and mosquito land, but I loved it! I too am disappointed that I can't visit (and stay in ) the red neck mansion. Maybe someone will build one here.

oh I love it I now live in a trailer and have for years my mom always lovingly called me trailer trash because of course I had my pink flamingo's and garden junk but tasteful junk
