I couln't believe my eyes...
Comments (2)I use MG for everything & have never had this happen unless the plant was way overdue for a repotting, even then my situation wasn't nearly as bad as what you're describing. I do repot or pot-up my plants every spring though, so maybe that's why I've never seen it this bad. I will have to watch my plants though, don't want this happening to me! :) Good luck w/ your new mixture! ~Shannon...See Morewhat are you growing
Comments (29)I'm just a beginner, but here's the rundown: -1 Chamaedorea Elegans, doing REALLY well although I bought it from IKEA and it didnt look the best, but now its all happy and perky. It's on top of my radiator in the bathroom and I water it every other day, it pops out fronds like its nobody's business, it also doesn't mind the dry air when I'm not showering, what a plus! it gets whatever extra fert i have left over from doing my other plants. This houseplant deserves more recognition because I give it a 5 star rating. -1 Musa Basjoo banana.its in pretty good shape, its down to 1 LEAF now because one of them burnt for a reason i still don't know why?,its putting out another one with more on the way. It puts out 1 leaf per week. I fert it once a month. This one is another great plant of mine. -1 Aechmea Fasciata. This one has had a love-hate relationship with me, but now its produced 2 pups and is powering along nicely. The pink bloom is gone, but the fountain-look and whiteness of the foliage always mesmerizes me. It takes dry air now, didnt use to. Likes tons of sun also. This one goes to the garden with the banana in the summer, because I've tipped it over as far back as I can fathom, its very top heavy so beware! But anyways now here's the list of what I've killed: -2 Sabal Palmetto seedlings. These were never ment for my house, but unknowingly I got them in November and babied them for 5 months before they bid farewell. After that I stuck em outside and let Mother Nature take over. -1 WodXVeitchia seedling. I bought this for $20 on ebay in september and It only survived until December. I think it died due to pink rot on the crownshaft. -1 Guzmania Bromeliad. I bought this at Home Depot in a 16in pot for $15 in October and it died in March. The unusual thing is that one of the old stems where the old plants were(they produced pups before this) had fell off and was missing. The plant also stopped growing and died, so again I let Mother Nature take care of it, well I can always go back to Home Depot and buy another! Comments (5)Hello, I have had Schlumbergera for only a few years but this is my advice to you. I would take the half torn segment off and separate it into 2 to 3 segment pieces and put them in as many pots as you want (put them all together for a full plant or separate for lots of little plants) and let it root. Some Schlumbergera are slow growers but for aesthetic reasons you may want to just take what you want from the old plant and root it into a new one and get rid of the not as attractive segments with holes. I don't know where the holes are in the segments or if it is affecting its growth. Under the right conditions you can get a Schlumbergera to flower before the cutting reaches 1 year. I have had mine for 3 years but only got them to flower this year. I am not very good with watering and I moved around a lot (which they hate). I have finally settled down and have found them a spot they seem to like that gets some sun (not too much), gets cool at night, is fairly humid and stays dark at night (no artificial light). Some people can get them to bloom without lifting a finger while others struggle to find just the right environment. I found it frustrating when mine would bud only to have them drop a week later. Good luck!...See MoreChristmas Cactus DYING! HELP!
Comments (16)Jocelyn, that's why I asked about soaking. What you did is exactly what I have done for my TCs. Then one day someone described how they soaked their plant and I realized that I wasn't doing what was suggested. Do try to removed most all of the soil from the roots of your plant before repotting. If it is hard, like asked above, it will still interfere with getting water to the roots. Be patient and soak and swish with warm/tepid water. Sometimes a bamboo skewer will help break up the hard soil without ripping off all the roots. Your plant will thank you. Good luck! Come back with any more questions and do let us see your plant after you finish. We love a success story!...See Morebrodyjames_gw
