The other thing on the vine is beans.

Cool season crop. Mine pulled weeks ago in Z5 and if fall crop we direct seed now-ish. I plant bush beans as they do better in heat.

Most likely it is far too hot for peas now. They are an early spring cool weather crop or a late fall cool weather crop. Even beans aren't setting fruit now as it is just too hot to even form blooms much less pollinate themselves. They are in survival mode now.

Once the weather breaks they will kick into production if we can just keep them healthy until then.

However you might want to do some reading here on proper watering techniques. "Daily for 30 minutes" isn't normally considered the best way to go. Less frequently for much longer periods of time will usually serve the plants better.

For me, I've been growing Peas since March (they didn't Germinate until April. The seeds were in the ground about a month before germination because of how cold it was.) I have a lot of flowers on my Pea vines. The heat you're having is most likely the cause.

It's been a long time since I used a soaker hose, but 30 minutes doesn't sound like nearly long enough. I recommend digging into the soil to see how wet or dry it is a few inches down.

If you do find that it's pretty dry, I'd leave that soaker hose going one day, all day if need be, returning every hour or so to see how deep the water's gotten. Once the soil is thoroughly saturated once, then you can go back to a shorter watering time, but keep on checking.

Welcome to the Deep South, where an awful of of gardening is very different from anywhere else. First, you need to know that English peas, sweet peas, or sugar snap peas, as stated above, all require extended cool temps, which we rarely have this far south. I plant them every year in February. I get a crop some years, but not every year.

In my area, when folks talk about peas, they mean cowpeas (black-eyed, crowders, pink eye purple hulls, cream, lady, etc.) These are easy to grow in the Deep South. They love high heat. They are drought tolerant. They even improve the soil just by growing in it. Next year, plant them. You can plant them through-out the (long) growing season.

With regard to tomatoes, start the big ones from seed (or buy transplants, of course) about six weeks before your last frost date, and get them into the ground as soon as it's warm enough. You will (most years) get a good crop in late June to mid July. Also, plant a cherry tomato or two in the ground or in pots (I put them in pots). These will continue to produce until frost if you give them good care: water daily, liquid fertilizer weekly.

The good news is if you get busy and plant now, you can have a second garden that will produce through the fall and even all winter.
