reaction to spider bite

Yesterday I awoke from a nap to find an area of my leg covered in fat, itchy hives & didn't know why. Today I still have them & they've spread up to my thigh. When I was inspecting the hives in the sunlight this morning, I noticed what looked like a spider bite near my knee. The hives are driving me crazy with itching, like mosquito bites. I have experienced this once before when I was a kid, & got a cortisone shot that had more side efeects than anything & didn't really help. Does anyone know of anything that helps cleanse the blood....like an infusion or tea or something...the sooner I get this allergen stuff out of me, the better. :0) Thanks, Shannon

benadryl.... take it. AND you can bathe in cool water. I'd make an oatmeal "tea" to bathe in too. But, take the benadryl.

Hehe, I'm no stranger to Benadryl & like products....it's not helping...that's why I'm posting on the herbalism forum.

It seems I have plenty of spiders already. I noticed one in my mom's garden today too. Seems we have the perfect environment for them here lately even though I'm not sure what exactly it is they like. Maybe it is the shade, haven't seen any webbing in the sunny areas. BTW Mary I will be sure to use caution. I had an allergic reaction to a spider bite a few years ago. Then I was allergic to the antibiotic they gave me to treat it. Ended up using steroid cream to make the swelling go down along with the doctor saying do not hesitate to page me if your condition changes. Ever since then I try not avoid spiders. Not exactly scared of them, I just don't want to cause them to be scared of me. -StlGirl

You need to see a doctor. Infections from untreated brown recluse spiders are fairly common and professional treatment is necessary. Sticky spider traps can assist you in seeing what kind of nocturnal spiders might be lurking in your home. Since you don't know very much about spiders, you should take any trapped spiders to your local extension office for a proper identification. Brown recluse spiders are quite small and are often misidentified. By the way, let me emphasize that they are NOCTURNAL. It's not likely that you will see them in the daytime and never in a window sill.

Yes the reaction hightens after every exposure and becomes more violent thatÂ´s why itÂ´s important to take the dog to the vet quickly. Hystamine blockers donÂ´t work well on dogs and are very short lived ( only good for 6-8 hours ), but cortisone does wonders, if you are having the problem and canÂ´t locate the cause you can ask your vet to give your dog a shot of a long term deposit cortisone compound, those last up to 15 days, 15 days free of worries. Yes IÂ´ve heard the horror stories about cortisone, in my experience, those horror stories are extremely rare, they can happen but itÂ´s like penicilin, there are people and animals allergic to penicilin but that doesnÂ´t mean that penicilin isnÂ´t a good antibiotic for the remaining 99% of the population that are not allergic to penicilin. Same thing happens with cortisone, some animals may develop cortisone related health issues, thatÂ´s why it is important that the therapy is performed and under supervision by your vet. For what you are saying I think that whatÂ´s causing the problem is in that particular tree, you may not have fire ants ( Ohio is too cold for them ) but you have carpenter ants and those also sting, and they survive in cold climates protected by the bark and wood. Check that tree for carpenter ants. You have no idea how many cases I see every year, hot climates have hot bugs, the list is long and distinguished where I live: fire ants, bumble bees, those nasty 1 1/2 inch red wasps that carry more fire power than an Apache helicopter with an attitude, those black & yellow spotted wasps ( also very nasty ), black widow spiders, scorpions, wooly buggers ( butterfly caterpillars with "hair" ) and to round up the mix, rattlesnakes and poisonous toad. You gotta love the South !

there are some types of bugs and flies that will actually put an egg under the skin and it will begin to grow and the small hole thing is how it breathes, if it starts to swell up get it checked asap, mosquitoes can actually carry them too.Google botfly larvae an article about a man that got infected while on vacation bot fly youtube has several videos showing them and the removal

Hmmm... well, if it gets worse, go to the docs! There ARE other things to take besides cortisone shots. Spider bites can turn to blood poisoning, so don't flake on it! :o(
I had an allergic reaction to a medicine once and had head to toe hives... I was ready for suicide! You can try baking soda and water paste... I certainly know that cool baths work...temporarily.

There are other things besides cortisone shots? I've had numerous allergic reactions to different things & they always offer up the cortisone first thing. That's the only reason why I havent called a doctor. Shoot, I guess I'll have to call in the morning & see if they can tell me any other options besides the shot. Yeah, you may not like it though. They gave me this antihistimine that KNOCKED me out.... It worked alright, but I slept for like 4 hours. Way stronger than benadryl. Course I hadn't really slept before that. There are a lot of steroids out there too. Oh, also, I am allergic to bees, and once I got stung and couldn't get medicine and this doc said BOOZE helps... :D

I wrote an email to my doctor & he says "take 50 mg. of Benadryl".....arg, go figure. The rash looks a bit better this morn, so maybe it wont last very long this time. Thanks for the help, Shan

Wow... you can email your doctor? WAY cool! Well, glad you are better... I had a friend who was allergic to a spider bite, and being a man, let it go till it was blood poisoning. :o(

Think I was bit by a spider woke up with pain in foot went to work made it 8 hours then I got really sick for 1day totay is third day feel good swellon going down however now I'm starting to get red streek up leg (got bite in foot) very little pain but red streek starting to worry about did you see this before and not sure it was spider bite happen while sleeping tks
