I started this sometime in early October. The far side of the yard was difficult to access. I left it mainly to the dogs, but since they've grown up they don't go over there often. I wanted to have better access and I wanted to use the area under the Pepper trees as a personal space. Each bag of crushed rock must weigh close to 70 lbs I'd say. I took down 60 bags! Who knows how much the RR ties weigh (some were a lot heavier than others). I tied a rope on one end and drug them down. Digging the holes took forever. Mostly rocks with a heavy clay for mortar. Hey, I've been doing this for 20 years now--no complaining.

Anyway, I'm getting a hammock to hang between the Pepper trees. I already put an Adirondack chair down there so I can smoke the cigars I got for Christmas.

Ron--

That looks like a VERY inviting spot. I think a hammock will be wonderful there. You've certainly EARNED those cigars! And your beverage of choice.

I am making a quilt for my granddaughter, and then onto a blue jean scrap quilt for my great nephew forhis birthday. Also trying to decide what to do for an ornament swap I joined and am painting gingerbread items to try and sell on ebay, and also making a bunch of table runners for gifts and to hopefully sell on Ebay or at a craft show this year. And crocheting spider webs to sell on Ebay. Sold lots last year. Money sure came in handy, but I was crocheting in my sleep 24/7. LOL! I can't wait to see the pics of your dools and stuff when you post them

Beautiful! I too just love the edging. On another note: I have Paint Shop Pro version 8 loaded on my computer. On the top bars it has an auto picture adjust. I just let the program do all the corrections. I find I am using this alot to correct the colors and alot more. What it does, is it will actually pick up on the actual color, no matter how pale it is, and bring it back to the original (yellow in this case). Give it a try. It will even correct red eye! Happy crafting to all :>)

Thanks again girls! There's a bit of a story to the bear fishing...you will notice there is no water under his boat....that's to show how small our fishing holes are in the south....and the funky tree I sorta sewed together wrong....trees are very sparse here too! Thanks Angea for your suggestion on lengthening my Bento Box and I would do that but I am totally out of fabric and it would mean 16 units. What I thought I was making was country is now Japanese, I want to add something oriental.....like the border and maybe quilt chop sticks somewhere on the quilt. I just love this top so maybe I'll have more fun machine quilting it. Jean

I am fascinated by the tropical (to me) vegetaion. You are a worker! Perfect spot for cigar, a beverage and a good book.

You know what I would tuck in amongst the rocks in pictures three and four (Assuming the light is right?) Some of the kalanchoes and succulents that I can't grow here--but wish I could. Like Kalanchoe thrysiflora or some Lithops...you can probably grow all KINDS of succulents and sedums that have to be house plants here in zone 7.

Wow, what a difference a year and a half makes. I've been slowly adding some cycad seedlings and a few other things along the path I built. Down below I pulled out the remainder of the iceplant and finished most of the plantings. Added a RR-tie retaining wall and some other stuff.

So, here is how it looks now. The hammock has been up since last summer.

It really gives the flavor of being in southern California/San Diego, and I like the rustic quality that the Schinus and the Agaves impart to the scene. I would guess that water is the limiting factor in keeping the plantings somewhat sparse, as well as San Diego's notoriously difficult combination of clay, hardpans and rock. It looks inviting, especially with the heat wave we have been having all over in California, even here in Berkeley.

The combination of colours, especially of the different rocks, is alluring. Amazing composition. Amazing construction.

Thanks for the update...it's lovely. ALMOST enough to make me wish DH had taken that job in SoCal. Of course, we wouldn't have been able to afford a house with a yard...but a girl can dream.
