Does the spout end of the pot filler have a bubbler or anything screwed to the end? If so, you can remove it and take it to a plumbing supply store to get a hose adapter that fits (it's better to take yours in than measuring it yourself because the threads and size both need to be correct). When you use the hose, be careful not to leave the open end submerged or the liquid can siphon back into the hose and potentially pollute the water in your system. If that won't work, there are also hoses that just slide over a faucet. They aren't as good a seal, so you'd want to put a big pot underneath, and a lot of towels all over, in case it fails, though it probably won't. The reason that I told you to put it into the adjacent cabinet was because the typical cooktop barely fits into it's base cabinet as it is. If you do a 36" cooktop in a 42" base cabinet, then you may have room for all of the electrical and plumbing in the cabinet. (Look how large Beagles cabinet is in relation to the cooktop size.) If you're trying for a 36" in a 36" cabinet, there simply isn't enough room for everything to clear properly. Not to mention the hole in the stone for the filler is too close to the hole for the cooktop and you take the chance of it cracking. You want at least a couple of inches of room between the two for strength.

We have one. We bought a finished new construction house, and the builder put it in. We've lived in this house for 6 months now. Honestly, it's taken some getting used to - I was so accustomed to going to the sink for water. If you do alot of cooking, I think it's a neat gadget. I find myself using it more. The only thing is that I prefer filtered water (our town water taste of chlorine, IMO). We have an undercounter water filter, so if I'm boiling tea bags, etc., I tend to use the filtered water from the kitchen faucet. However, earlier this week I canned some tomatoes, and that pot filler was awesome. I put my big canner on the range and filled it up while doing a few other things around the kitchen. Our previous house had a pull-out faucet, so to fill the canner up, I'd put it on the counter top (b/c it's too big for the sink) and would pull the faucet over and fill it up, then have to lift it to the sink. The pot filler was much, much easier, although, I did still have to lift it when I was done to carry it over to the sink to pour out. Could I live without it? Absolutely, but for some tasks, it's really handy. It's more of a conversation piece than anything because alot of people (at least in our area) have never seen one. BTW, we have a Brizo one that does NOT have the swing joint (looks like all of their current models do). Having a joint would be handy, but I don't think not having is a big deal. We have a 5 burner Thermador cooktop under it, and if I have a big pot on the center burner, then it will swing over that just fine.

I debated it, and ultimately decided not to do it. My prep sink is just across the aisle, though. I think this is key: What else is in your personal kitchen? I don't think it's fair to make a blanket statement such as "Yes, pot fillers are wonderful -- everyone needs one" or "No, pot fillers are a complete waste" without knowing where the other water source is located ... without knowing what types of things the family typically cooks ... and, in general, without considering the whole make-up of the kitchen. A related consideration: Where's your plumbing? If adding a pot filler would mean bringing plumbing across the kitchen for this one item, I'd say no. On the other hand, my stove will be on the other side of the wall that already houses the washer /dryer ... so I'll already have water running through that wall, making a pot filler a much less expensive item. I figure it's just a bit more exercise for the few times a month we need a larger pot of water. Plus a bigger issue to me is when I dump the water, my glasses fog up. Anyone have a solution for that? If the question were just about pots of water (as in pasta cooking), yeah, I'd agree ... but I make a pitcher of iced tea every other day, and I cook lots of soups; those things don't require dumping the water. As for glasses, everyone in my family is dependent upon corrective lenses, and if a solution for this fogging-up problem exists, none of us know it. And the reality is, I'm strong and certainly have no issues with moving a large pot of water from the sink to the range. At the moment, I can say the same, but I'm building a retirement house, and -- considering the lifespans of my grandmother and other women in my family -- I expect to be on this earth another 50 years. Will I always be as capable as I am today? At some point, no. My conclusion: A pot filler is a nice thing to have, if it's practical for your kitchen; however, it is a nice little luxury -- far from a necessity.
