When life gives you lemons...or should I say
Comments (7)But should we just say "Oh well" to insects that are not Native? Or do we at least try an control or stop what someone has messed up. In the case of importing insects, animals or plants that are not native, we need to try an correct it. But I don't think man made chemicals are the solution either. Hence the use of Milky spore. I do like the idea of the birdbath too. Somethings balance themselves like the Lamprey eel introduced in upper Mississippi waters in the 70's. Turns out the fish loved them and you don't see them anymore. Or the Zebra mussels actually cleaning the waters. But in the case of JB the natural solution hasn't caught up yet....See MorePosted some lemon spot pictures on the gallery ...

Comments (11)Kathe, I agree with all that's been said about your table. Its wonderful. I am so bothered by what happened to your Dad that the sores were THAT bad. Sure sounds like no one bathed him or checked him properly. Scary thought, and I'm sure its a worry for you now with having to stay on top of them. I will keep him, and you, in my prayers. Luvs, its not just some NHs. A year ago Dec when Dad went in the hospital after doc gave him meds he shouldn't have, Dad came home with some bad bedsores on his ankles and toes. From the hospital of all places!! They had put socks on his feet initially to keep them warm, and apparently no one bothered to take them off and bathe or check his feet. I was so mad when he came home, and I discovered the bedsores! We had nursing care coming in several times a week trying to treat them. I was thankful they were on his feet and nowhere else, but they caused him a LOT of pain and discomfort till I lost him several weeks later. The hospital also didn't seem to realize he couldn't turn over in bed at all and just lay in same position waaaay too long. All they did was raise and lower the head of the bed apparently! And this is a huge, well-known hospital and trauma center in Phoenix. (guess I'm STILL mad it seems) hugs, Karen...See MoreSub coconut or olive oil for butter in cake,Grainlady
Comments (9)I finally made a cake with the Meyer Lemons that fell from my tree. Grainlady, I thought I had coconut oil but I didn't. I looked where I normally shop and wasn't happy with what they had so I wound up using the quick lemon cake recipe that Shambo posted and my lightest, virtually flavorless, olive oil. I still think that the slight coconut flavor of coconut oil with the lemon would be great and I have put it on my phone shopping list. The spicy lime mayo you posted is definitely something we would love and I just looked at their website and one of my local supermarkets sells it, so it's on the list too. Thanks for your help. Sherrmann, coconut oil has been controversial, but from all the reading I've done, I feel it is healthy. We all have to make our own decisions on lots of foods and I will be quick to admit that I often feel there is conflicting research on all sorts of foods. I love butter too, but since my very serious heart surgery I have to be careful about how much I use. Coconut oil has no cholesterol and no sodium and butter is very high in cholesterol. I certainly do eat some butter, but it's in my best interest to limit it which is why my original question was to ask what to substitute for some of the butter. I'm sure this recipe would be fabulously wonderful with the original amount of butter. Lee...See Moretapla (mid-Michigan, USDA z5b-6a)
