Have Lemons? Make a Decorative Statement
Add a splash of citrus for some midwinter color therapy
If the thought of eating another bite of season-appropriate kale or squash has you yearning for the end of winter, take heart; lemons and other citrus fruit are now ripe and ready!
And just as the tart fruit can brighten up a meal, a pile of them can act as a palate-cleanser in a room. So if you’re in California and have a tree heavy with lemons or, conversely, are in the throes of a cold winter and need a boost, try incorporating a bit of citrus inside. Here are some rooms that either use the fruit quite literally or simply look to it for inspiration.

A line of bright lemons mimics the rows of penny tiles above and below.
Or take that sunny line and go vertical. A happy bathroom like this one will bring a smile to anyone's morning routine.
Always add a couple lemons to any bar setting. Not only do they brighten your drinks, they keep away scurvy! Arr.
Bright white and lemony yellow are a perfect pairing. Here, a colorful sofa brings some fun to this room (as do the bright pink accent pieces).
I love gray, but alone with white it can come off as drab. A few decorative lemons and some flowers set that right in a jiffy.
Similarly, this living room needed a little extra oomph. Nothing a few yellow throw pillows and a ginger jar can't cure.
If it's miserable out, close those drapes, get the fire going, and bring in some artificial sunlight with bursts of saturated yellow.
Like flowers, an arrangement of fruit brings a lovely bit of nature indoors. Unlike flowers, these decorative pieces can easily be eaten when you're through with them.
I spy a few lemons in the corner. But the wall color reminds me of yuzu, another tart citrus fruit.
Clip a few lemons with their leaves intact for a little greenery thrown into your arrangement.
And if you’re in a warmer climate, a citrus tree (or four) will keep you rich in bright color (not to mention vitamin C) for months on end. For colder climates, pot a dwarf citrus tree for the same effect.
