Hi, is your low light caused by overhead trees? Or, are you trying to grow near a window? I had good luck growing several types of hot peppers and also lettuce in the shade of a large oak tree. The plants got direct sunlight only about 1 hour a day. If you are growing outside, you might be surprised at how well your plants might grow. You might be able to do a test by purchasing a few plants and placeing them in the area you are planning to set up your system. It might be the only way to really answer your question. Actually, the Vireya rhododendrons (tropicals) would do OK for you - they do better in raised beds/tubs but some varieties are fine in large hanging baskets, too. Ditto the Medinillas, which though they have small individual flowers, make a show with large bunches and then the attractive bracts after (esp the orange one). I would be going for some of the showy hibiscus and mussaendas and there are a lot of very bright ixoras which (again, small individual flowers but large heads) flower non-stop in warmer areas. Allamanda are also good flowerers and manageable if you cut them back hard andn don't let them straggle - you have the yellow (single and double) and the sunset colour. There are a few new mandevillea and dipladenia which can also be standardised if you aren't into vines (I am). Some of the daturas should also go ok there and have repeat flushes of flowers. (I don;t think you will find Alstroemerias so great as they are more demanding of "seasons" ). I wouldn't discount the value of pure foliage plants as cordylines, dracaenas and coleus would give you all-round colour. A few large flowered bromeliads for ground or trees. Large spathed anthuriums. If you have room, try to include some showy gingers but be careful of choice as some can take over. If you have some time to spare, make visits to Flecker gardens in Cairns and not only observe what is growing but talk to the gardeners and "friends of the garden" for further input.

Ok, so I'm no light expert here, and I haven't physically seen your room, but I'm guessing that the sun comes in through your South window first, lingers for several hours, and then rolls around to the West window after which it then sets. So based on the pattern of the sun, and the distance of your furniture from the two windows, I'm wondering if you should focus your medium light requirement plants (medium light at most) on the dresser, and more of a low light plant for the bookshelf. If your bookshelf is higher than the window, then you've got a really low light situation there. You can use a light meter app on your smartphone to figure out where light is most intense in the room. This could be why your jades were suffering. You could put a plant on top of the AC as lmontestella suggested, just stick with a tougher one like a pothos, heartleaf philodendron, or sansevieria. As someone who always struggles with enough light, I tend to play it safe with low to medium light tropical plants. For the dresser, you could go with something like a parlour palm, another pothos, a smaller variety peace lily, or a Chinese Evergreen.
