Gardening on a roof - anyone with experience?

Hi, My DD has a roof on her building that is a wonderful sunny place and she was considering growing something up there. I am more used to gardening in part sun and have never had a hot sunny situation like that. I thought that she might have a hard time keeping them watered and would have to commit to watering every day. Even then I wonder if that will be enough. I don't want to give her the wrong advice. Last year, in a different location she tried growing a large pot of peas on a tripod and it did fairly well for her but she had few peas, because of lack of sun. I would like to encourage her to try it again, but will they bake? She would like to try herbs to cook with. I imagine they could take it but I suppose they would be better off in a large container to keep the moisture? I was thinking of suggesting sedums etc, yes?

Any experiences you could share or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks :-)
