I bought 3 licorice plants that are that color. One is in a container in a part shade spot with a purple penta and ivy - looks fabulous together. The other two are in full sun in containers with Rosemary - another fabulous contrast in colors. I also have the chatreuse creeping Jenny in a container with a miniature red rose. I took some of it out of the container and stuck it in the ground around my pond, so by the end of this year I should have lots of chatreuse in my garden. I am finding that I really like that chartreuse color too. It sure does brighten things up!

I find this thread most interesting. Years ago, I tried to use only live flowers and plants in my home--not really a successful venture. To make a long story short we developed a garden outside of our windows and added a sunroom that opens to a gazebo in the back yard. I do not use many live plants, except on a temporary basis in most of my home--not enough light, and I discovered that at least in my region, live plants carry carpet beetles. After having to send all of my oriental rugs out for repair from the damage of the beetle larvae, I became very careful of using live plants in rooms with carpets. I have many large tropical plants in pots plus I try to grow orchids, especially white and yellow ones. THese live in my sunroom, which is visible from the the main rooms of my home. These plants live outside in arbors, which are also visible from the main roomsduring warm months. I do cheat and use silk white orchids in my low light rooms. They are difficult to distinguish from real ones (I recognize some of them in shelter magazines--but if I did not have exactly the same silk orchid I would assumed that the mag. ones were real.) If I have orchids blooming, I will sometimes move the real ones to one of my interior rooms briefly just to enjoy. However, if they are not blooming, I have been known to "Spike" their pots with a stem of silk ones--a trick I learned from a florist friend. I'm not sure I'd wonder too long about what plants it looks good with.......unfortunately I doubt it will be hardy enough to overwinter in your zone ;-( This is a for sure zone 7 plant! btw, if it should overwinter, this looks great with other blues and with red foliage - blue fescue or blue oat grass, red leaved Japanese barberries, red/purple heucheras, Blue Star juniper, etc. And in my climate, I pair it with Hebe 'Red Edge' or Hebe anomala 'Purpurea Nana'.

Well I did a reply to the latest posts, but I can't see it now...so as not to be seen to be ignoring the replies, here it is again, no doubt it will now magically appear...twice! @Marguerite, thanks for the name Blue Hale, I hadn't come across that one before. I'll amend its label, you know how I like my labels! @ Rina, thank you. No particular secret as to their size. Maybe because of growing them hard, they rarely get any fertiliser, they're watered infrequently and get no special care really and spend their lives confined to the g/h...it works and suits me fine:-) @ Richard, thank you too. The blooms have taken an absolute age to develop from buds to open flowers and seem to be lasting even longer now in full flower....just wish they didn't pong so much, it's really an unpleasant smell in there especially when the sun is out :-/ My regular jades also flowered, they take a fair while to get from bud to open, but these beat them hands down in the 'longest time it takes stakes'. They (the ones that do flower) all generally start to show the first signs of buds around Jan/Feb, but just last sooooo long. I've only ever got the ordinary plain ovatas and this one to flower...so far. Regarding the downsizing, yes they can certainly be cut down, but I'd still have to accommodate them in the house come the day my g/h falls down! Don't worry, it won't quite be yet :-) I just have to remember to place the plants to dodge the drips from the roof, hope one of the glass panes stays put as it's bottom frame has rotted and remember not to open one of the casement windows as I need to replace the hinges.....oh the joys of house ownership!
