I think I have an idea for an entirely new crop ...

Well, someone may have already tried this at some point.

Have any of you ever harvested the partially grown flower buds of sunflowers, and peeled and used the tender inner part similar to an artichoke heart?

I tried this last year, and they were very good, mild in flavor, tender, and overall very similar to artichoke hearts.

I think this has merit.

If you see some chef doing this in the future on a cooking show, think of me.

The plus with this one is that sunflowers are a lot easier to grow than artichokes, more productive, faster, and cheap if you use the regular seed (as opposed to the fancy cut flower types).

Just thought I'd throw that one out into the cyber ether for discussion.
