How Do I Preserve an In-Ground Tree Stump?

JK2010

We just took down a large tree that extended through two levels of deck, and had the stump cut off table height in the lower deck. The plan is to preserve it and put glass or plexiglass on it in order to use it as an outdoor table. HOW do I preserve it? We can't get at the roots and part of it is beneath the lower deck, so it will eventually decay. However,we'd like to get a few years use out of it first. I'm thinking of treating it with boiled linseed oil, then lacquering it, but not sure it that will keep termites, etc. at bay. Anyone had experience with this?

Thanks!
