We would like our beds to be separated as we are young adults now. And the cabinet there is not built-in, it can be moved.

If you don't want to keep the cabinet as part of your furniture it would be great for storage in a garage or elsewhere. Could you paint it white or another color and add new pulls?

Will you have twin, full or queen beds?

Your room looks spacious so each of you should have one end. Keep the decor similar but tied together with coordinating fabrics for the bedding and/or curtains.

Do you have a budget for the project?

WHAT a FUN space to work with! That is not to say that it isn't challenging as small spaces are.
Seeing that you have no closets, it is probably a good idea to keep the cabinet where it is, paint it the color of the walls so it blends in, and make sure to maximize the interior space so that you can keep organized.
The space behind the door looks like a good place to start with one bed...as young adults, we are probably correct in assuming that you don't want your beds directly next to or adjacent to each other so the other bed could go inbetween the windows adjacent to the entry door horizontally against the wall.
Not perfect, but sure you don't want a bed right under the AC.
Or if you don't mind your beds next to each other (you could always put up a fantastic curtain or partial wall between them) they could go at the end of the room on either side of the center window.
What fun to have a bed in the dormer area! It is very cozy.
Take is slowly except for the painting of the cabinet.
Do that first, then get the beds, bedding and move in with a decent reading lamp by each bed either floor or wall mount or on a small night stand.
You might even consider having platform beds built in with storage underneath.
Karen's daughter just moved into a college dorm that has great under bed storage in the form of drawers, but it could easily be open so you can keep things neatly folded or in baskets.
Have fun with the space and take it slowly. Spend time & money on the important things and yard sale the rest!

We were also wondering were we could put a table that would serve our work area. And is it still possible to have a dresser or is it too crowded already? Thanks!

In your last picture, I'd put twin beds in the left and right corners, running toward the camera, with night stands toward the window (and matching lamps, etc.). Then you could use the long wall for a desk, if you need/want to have one, and I'd put a comfy chair in the corner by the A/C unit, with a little table and reading light.

This arrangement assumes you get along reasonably well. If you need more defined and separate zones, then it's tougher because the wall unit narrows that part of the room.

Another possiblity would be to have two beds run head-to head (or foot to foot) along the left and window walls (again, in your 3rd photo), and then use the larger part of the right wall for a more substantial chunk of furniture -- a cluster of beanbag chairs, or a table with two armchairs, or a couple of desks or a vanity with a mirror. All this depends a bit on how you want to be able to use your bedroom. Anyway, if you have some living furniture up toward that end, then you could just put, say, a bench along the wall facing the wall unit, where you could sit to put on shoes and so forth.

This is just some brainstorming. Would need measurements to get more specific.

Beyond that, what gives it the "classic yet chic" look will be the individual pieces you choose, using one or more area rugs to define zones, the lamps and so forth. if you're motivated, you'll find a way -- Craig's List and local 2nd hand stores might give you some fun vintage finds, but it depends on your style...

Head of one bed next to door, other bed horizontal to cabinet with head against far wall by other door opening. Foot of each bed defined by low chest of drawers. Headboard by entry door could be narrow wooden shelves the width of indent, big enough for cell, etc. Bring them down low enough to stop bed from moving under them. (Headboard of second bed could be the same, but with sides on the shelves because there is no indent.) Consider wall lamps by beds.

Next, put the sitting area between the two spaces. There should be enough room on each side of it, or to one side of it, for two simple desks/vanities, each with two lamps - wall or regular. (Before you dismiss "vanities", they free up bathroom time and get cosmetics and hair styling equip. and products out of the bathroom. I have my own bathroom, but still have a vanity in the bedroom away from steam, moisture, etc.)

Paint all furniture the same as the wall color, but with paint made for that purpose. Blinds or shades for the windows, same color as walls. Other color to come from art, rugs, bed coverings, pillows. Use under bed storage, keep surface clutter to a minimum.

I wouldn't want my bunks smooshed together, but I love the lights in the window niche in the first pic! Second one is a bit what I was picturing for your arrangement... Anyway, maybe something will spark your imagination.





(p.s.) I searched for "classic chic teen bedroom" and got a *lot* of fun decorating ideas in different tastes -- I recommend perusing that! :)

Try the cupboard (actually just measure it & put masking tape on the floor) against the wall between the windows. That is your longest wall I believe. Then see if your beds will fit on either side of the cupboard and under each window.

I agree with painting the wood trim, the sloping walls and even the cupboard all the same color. Choose a very, very light color. You could even pick a different shade of the same color for the cupboard. Definately pick some new knobs for it. You could use old glass door knobs in some places, mix & match some, paint them different colors, just have fun with them. Look in an antique store or salvage yard for them.

See if you can fit bedside tables next to your beds. Can be on only one side if they fit that way. They do not need to match each other, but paint them both glossy cream color.
For head boards make a section of picket fence the width of the window, paint them also the creamy gloss white.

See if you can find old used quilts for you bedspreads. Pick a color you like from the bedspreads, probably agree on the color & make a ruffle for the top of your windows. Place the same type of ruffle on each window in the room.

Pick up some old rag rugs to go with your colors & scatter around the room. Place a couple of chairs with a table & lamp across from you beds for chatting or reading. Make some throw pillows out of quilts or scraps of old fabrics to place on the chairs & beds.

If you want a separation between your beds, if you have an Ikea store in your area they make a system for a wire to attach to the adjacent walls and a very inexpensive filmy lacey curtain to be hung across. You could even make that huge long room into two completely separate rooms and each do what you want in each side. Try to coordinate the colors & styles though. Have a lot of fun & work at it a little at a time.
