White soapstone backsplash and dark antique copper machined hardw
Comments (11)I have some dark ("antiqued") copper kitchen and lighting hardware and am quite fond of it. In my case, I needed to match my naturally patinating copper countertops. The antiqued finish might not be quite as dark as the machined finish you speak of. (Every brand is so different, too.) I think the darkened copper is a much richer feel than straight black would be - it has a nice gleam to it where the light shines. Your choice will depend on how all the other colors and textures in your kitchen interplay, of course. Feel free to post pictures for the good eyes here to help you out. This isn't the best pic but it shows my pendants in the antiqued copper finish from Rejuvenation Lighting: Sounds lovely -- have fun deciding!...See MoreTo granite backsplash or not to granite backsplash?
Comments (9)I don't like the 4" backsplash for the following reasons: - if you are doing a decorative tile for the rest of the backsplash, you are now decreasing and cutting off your design area by 4". - the 4" creates a little "shelf" that gets dusty, just one more thing to clean. - added expense to install the 4" piece of granite along your countertop. - people who say you "need it" to cover a gap between the countertop and the tiled wall just don't have good installers. My kitchen walls are extremely out-of-plumb, but my tile backsplash meets my granite countertop with no gaps cause I had experienced installers. - IMHO it looks dated, since the 4" idea was popular with formica in the '70's. I would only do a 4" backsplash if I were doing no other backsplash at all and just leaving drywall on the rest of the wall. And even in that case, I'd try to make it a little higher, like 5" or 6"....See MoreBacksplash Help - Alaska White Granite, Off White Cabinets
Comments (20)Oh my gosh! I'm reading all of your posts right now to my Hubby so he'll know I'm NOT the only one who can't make a decision on a backsplash! LOL I have the white Alaska granite countertops as well. It has been well over a year and I still can't decide! And although I do love them, it's such a hard decision to match them with a BS! I'm so happy I came across all of your posts. I know your struggles! However, hopefully, by now you have found the perfect backsplash for your kitchen countertops! Please post pictures if you have time. I'd really enjoy seeing some of the choices you have made. Comments (19)After more thought, the 4x12 is going to look weird. It will only be 4 tiles high behind the main counter. And the long stretch under the bar is only 5.5 inches tall so it will have one tile and a sliver of a tile under the bar. I really wish I could find something that is 2.5x6, 3x8, 3x10 in a color similar to the MSI Dove Gray. The MSI Dove Gray has a silvery tone to it that goes best with the Colonial White granite counters. I found a 2x10 tile that is gray (SOCI Crafted Brick Gray which is apparently new). I like the size, the crackle finish, and the uneven handcrafted look to it but the gray is more of a putty color. It doesn't have the silvery color that the Dove Gray has. The SOCI Crafted Brick Gray is apparently new so I can't find any pictures or displays at showrooms of it up on a wall to see how it looks installed. But, the Colonial White granite has some silver shimmer scattered throughout it that I think goes better with the Dove Gray. So, does anyone know of a silvery gray tile in a 2x6-10 or 2.5x6-10 or 3x8-10?? Something other than the 3x6 size that is everywhere. A little bit shorter and wider than the standard 3x6. Thank you very much for any advice or suggestions! Dove Gray on left in 3x6. Soci Crafted Brick in 2x10 on right. Dove Gray 4x12 on left. Soci Crafted Brick Gray 2x10 on right....See Morebyst
