Comments (52)Harborrose, I understand you completely. Many times in my gardening life I came across roses which did nothing to my soul. Eventually I made a decision to grow only roses that really cause me at certain momeents to catch my breath. I don't expect them to be in constant bloom, but there should be a time (can be as brief as one day in a whole season) when you look at a rose plant or single bloom and feel - WOW. There are other roses that can bloom and bloom and be healthy , but they never make you feel speachless and weak in your knees, even though they do provide reliable color in the garden. I prefer to grow roses from the first category. This is the reason why I have so many once bloomers. WOW factor with ramblers, albas, gallicas, early oriental yellows is basically garanteeed to you in this case. I also noticed that roses with "flat" color are not touching me the same way as roses with more complex color shades . Sexy Rexy is one of these "flat" roses. I gave it away as soon as I saw first blooms. Olga...See MoreOranges D-J
Comments (10)Carla, Hortico carries HAROLD MACMILLAN, but they show that it won't be available again until Oct '07. BC, I just love JOSHUA!! It's sooo unusual! Jen, EXOTICA has been a slow grower for me. This was the first bloom in over 2yrs! But, I think the bed it's in is lacking nutrients. I think this one is available at Johnny Becnel's. I got mine yrs ago from Carlton's....See MoreThis mis-labeled rose is supposed to be graham thomas
Comments (4)Going by the photo, and your description of the bloom's colors and especially lack of fragrance, my guess is Montezuma. Montezuma is a grandiflora-class rose, color is rated by ARS as "orange-pink," averaging 36 petals per bloom, blooms mostly singly in my yard - sometimes in low-number clusters, and tends to have long straight-ish canes reminiscent of a climber. I generally am not interested in slight-scent roses. The few exceptions I've made to that rule are due to their having "spectacular-colored" blooms. (Moonstone, green-edged St. Patrick, etc.) That is the reason why I have 5 Montezuma bushes. You might want to check some photos of Montezuma at HelpMeFind dotcom to help decide whether that's your mystery-rose. Caution: Montezuma's colors are hard to capture accurately with a camera - usually due to what photographers call "oversaturation." http://www.helpmefind.com/rose/l.php?i=A4366&tab=10 (Or use the Link below.) Comments (65)The Oranges I had bloomed ok...Livin Easy was a bloom machine from the get go without any fertilizer used... But I'll try potassium for better health... Only location I have that gets the least sun is out front. That location gets sun from sunrise until 2pm... Other location in the back closest to house gets sun from noonish until sunset... Farther out into backyard some locations gets sun from early morning until 5-6pm other locations early morning sun until dusk.. No trees around our yard or house... Nice orange shade on that Sweet Promise 2007 rose you pictured Strawbhill! :-) This post was edited by jim1961 on Sat, Jun 28, 14 at 13:44...See MoreHighDesert Z 7a
