Well so many people posted on this thread that I thought I would post one last time to show you the chair I ultimately purchased, and how I came to the decision. It became clear that I was not going to find my ideal chair on the floor of any store, so I decided that I would sit in as many as I could and take notes on the measurements to determine what seat height, seat depth, etc. would be best for me. I sat in a Hancock & Moore chair at Stickley that was very comfortable but found another H&M chair that had similar measurements but in a style I preferred. There were no H&M fabrics that I liked so shopped for fabrics and did the chair COM using a dark brown mohair velvet. I had seen a photo George Smith chair that I really liked and just decided to try to get as close to that as I could. The chair I wound up with is the Bradley chair but I chose a wider ottoman (the Foundation chair ottoman). The chair arrived last week. I am really happy with it! I decided to buy it through Stickley as they matched price and were local and great to deal with.

So many people with issues with parents...sad. I was loved, I had toys and gifts,dresses, dolls, books, sport stuff, games,I lacked for nothing . But as I got older, I think I tried to "recapture" my childhood. As an adult, I loved antique shows, flea markets, garage sales. Any time I saw something we had in our house growing up, I had to buy it. I even bought too many rose bushes and planted them in my garden, trying to re-create my Grandma's rose garden. I now have a linen closet stacked with doilies and tablecloths I'll never use, sets of fancy glasses too fragile to use, things like that. Oh, and on the funny side, my daughter cleaned out my bathroom just yesterday. She found eleven bottles of Listerine. I don't know, I hate the stuff, it burns... I remember buying one bottle because it did everything, whitens teeth, freshens breath, makes gums healthy, strengthens the enamel. I'm just always looking for something to make me happy.

My house was built in 1952 and in 2001 the line broke out in the street,sewage/water backed up in our house.I was washing clothes and when I came in from the garage I found the toilet,sinks in kitchen and bathroom full of nasty water. Called the plumber he roto rootered it,to no avail,then ended up calling roto rooter who put a camera down the line and saw the break out in the street.Called the city,they said your problem!! Roto rooter doesn't do that kind of work and the city couldn't direct us directly to anyone who did,but they did give us alist of plumbing contractors they used. We picked one and thank goodness our choice was a great one. City told the plumbers the pipes were down 7',ummmm ,no they were down almost 13'. Lucky for us ds knows people that work for the city and they told us what to do as well,and also told us to take lots of pictures,the plumbers and sub contractors had already told us that as well.They also took lots of pictures. They had to gut our bathroom,take down 3' of wall in the hall and bathroom,set up those fans to dry it out,replace our bathroom fixtures,the floor and wall,put that stuff that keeps mold from growing on the studs and inner walls,repaint the bathroom and hall,and all sorts of stuff. It cost several thousands of dollars which we had to pay for initially,but when all was said and done between our insurance and the city,we weren't out any money in the end. It was however the biggest hassel I've ever been through,and I had to handle it pretty much on my own as dh had had a stroke a few months before.Thank God my son was/is just a phone call and 10 minutes away,and is very dependable. It took a few weeks from start to finish,and all the workers were great. Traffic thru our area was not happy as they had to dig up the street,and put down those big iron plates,since after we bought this house they put a main highway down the hill below us,so it send a lot of traffic thru here now. We've been in this house for 47 years. OOPS,forgot to say that the cause of the break was one of those old terra cotta looking pipes that were installed when the houses went in,had a piece that broke off and was laying across the opening that ran from our house. I don't know..it might depend on a location a lot. Materials used, ways that renovations are done. I think 90% of countertops in Israel are limestone (or were..not that I've been around many homes there a lot lately, unlike in the past), because that is what's there in abundance. So it makes sense to use what's there. It stains and etches and then you get over it. I'm sure now they use Quartz too, would make sense. I hope theirs is better than mine lol. And wood is crazily expensive because it's scarce..so wood floors are not installed usually..stone or porcelain that mimics it is, because again, it's what's available and suits the climate. Laminate, yes..some people put laminate. Some people probably put wood too but I have never met them. Most people won't have really big kitchens so they won't have big appliances. Most people won't have islands either. That's probably why I never really wanted to have an island, the same way I never want to eat mussels..I never had them so no idea what I'm missing on. I saw wall to wall carpets first time in my life when I stepped on this continent. Also popcorn ceilings. Ah, and the toilet bowls are different too! the water stands. I remember worrying the toilets were broken lol. Then I realized it's just different construction. The ceilings fascinated me..I never saw non-smooth ceilings before. I looked up and stared at it, first several days, like it was the most interesting thing ever. On the other hand in Eastern part of former USSR where I spend my childhood you had either wood or linoleum. Never stone. Also makes sense since well, no shortage of wood. And we didn't have any tiles. The kitchens were sort of unfitted, even if the cabinets matched and all(ours matched)..and mm..I don't remember whether we had countertops? If yes it was formica but frankly I don't remember countertops. Anyway, we did everything on the kitchen table. And the sink was kinda just a sink? with a shelf for dishes above it. Most bathrooms also didn't have tiles. Just washable paint. Of course things there changed a lot since then, and people renovate if they can afford it. Wallpaper (in the rooms) was popular and stays popular. The few homes I've been to, when I visited a couple of times, they were pretty much as I remembered though. Not really remodeled or updated. We went to visit a friend and everybody stayed glued to that tiny kitchen of hers and talked for hours..there were not enough chairs so I sat on the floor. Nobody was keen on moving to the living room. That's funny how you continue to do things in the way you're used to. Sorry for blubbering..so many memories.
