My Daughter graduated college (pic heavy)

The party yesterday went really well... everyone seemed very impressed by the Fazolli's food that was catered. The forecasted rain held off till most of the guests had already left.

Here's my mom and dad with my DD after her graduation which was on Friday. My daughter graduated with a major in Parks, Recreation and Sports Administration. She already has a job in Omaha!

The pasta dishes... we had 10 pans total. There was also chips, salad and desserts.

Markers were in one of the painted jars so the guests could write or draw on the covered tables. I had asked for suggestions here on what to cover the tables with.. I ended up using thick white wrapping paper I bought at the Dollar Tree. Worked great!

Me and my DD (sorry about the sideways pic, but the computer bug I had screwed up my software and I don't know how else to rotate the pic) Does anybody know where the 'edit' button on Tinypic went? I used to be able to rotate pics there.

The card case. Got this idea plus the table idea from Pinterest.

Checking with the school or the major department (to see if there is a specific reason for or against a particular choice) is a good idea. My own family's experiences, which includes a total of 6 undergrad and grad program starts, was that 1) Not surprisingly, all schools and programs could accommodate and provide tech support for both Mac and Windows machines. All 6 could provide software either for free or with heavy discounts and left the choice of flavor up to the student with no specific recommendation, and 2) While all schools offered "special pricing" for purchases from the school/student store, none required it. None of the school "deals" we encountered were ever particularly competitive, I was always able to get more value for money from normal sources. I wouldn't be surprised if there were some photo/graphics or art programs that may be Mac only. You'll learn if one of those special situations applies by asking.

Thanks everyone, especially those of you who said I looked great! Hehe. He had a job lined up with a store chain but they bailed out on him at the last minute. His major was business administration and he is jobless now! He is moving back home until he finds a job, which is okay with me! Now that our kids are growing up and moving out I'm wishing they would come back, and he will for a while! I know it's hard on him but I'm happy!

Thank you all so much for taking the time to give me/us these suggestions! Emily & I have been sitting here this morning, rereading every one of your posts and adding things to our ongoing lists to do, to take and to buy. They have helped so much. You've helped us both by suggesting things we hadn't thought of and you've also saved me money, because I'm not having to ship off things DD will need but we'd forgotten. And yes, I do realize that there will be local stores that she can shop at for forgotten items, but as I mentioned here before, we've been there and done this with DS nine years ago. Let me mention it again for any other new freshman parents: the local stores in the area will be a nightmare to shop at that move-in day and for at least the next week afterwards! Most needed items will be quickly sold out and the check-out lines will be staggeringly long with stressed out, frazzled parents and students. Been there, will NOT be doing that one again this time! Lisa: thank you for that suggestion! I'd hadn't yet thought of her immunization records, but have just added this to our list. Suero: thanks for that link. I've made a list of things we need to check with housing about. Lazy: yes, the school does provide bed, mattress, desk, chair, etc. I'm with you on the stores and madhouse there will be at them that first day/week ;^D Gotta run errands with DD once again. Glenda, she is working as an events coordinator (parties and weddings). All but one of her friends who got Recreation majors already have jobs.. many of the internships turned into job offers. One is working at a FL resort, another is working with a sports team.. can't recall the rest. Resorts, amusement parks, city and state parks, camps, recreation for seniors in nursing homes, etc.... lots of different things one can do with this major!

He's an outdoorsman, hunting, fishing, camping, that's what he is leaning towards.

Glenda, he should look into forestry. As I recall, the state university in Ames, Iowa, had a good forestry program.

Congratulations! Your DD is pretty, and your parents look so young! Fazzoli's is a great idea for catering, I never thought of that. The food looks scrumptious.

Glenda, UW Steven's Point also has a great Forestry/Wildlife management degree.
But I know you don't want him way up in Wisconsin, and then there's the tough winters to contend with.

You have great genes in your family. You all look so young! Your daughter looks so young, fresh and full of hope. She has a great future ahead of her. I had no idea you could do so many things with that degree.

Your food looks wonderful--I tend to like the white sauce dishes more than the red and it looks like they were pretty popular at your party, too. It must've been a lot of fun--and I'd love to have something catered. Once, just once LOL!

Great pictures. Seems like a lot of women basketball players major in recreation. Brittany Griner, who is the star player at Baylor, is a recreation major also.

Thanks for all the nice responses everyone!

Alisande, she is 6 hours from us... so a little far for a day visit, but quite doable for a weekend trip.

Patti... we helped her move about a month ago.. had dinner at a buffet pizza place (expensive!) in CB and went to TJMaxx and a few other places. We were only in Omaha 2 nights so no extra time for a get together... but I did look around to see if any faces looked familiar. I remembered that you lived there. I'll let you know next time, okay?

Glenda, if he's interested in working for the Parks department or something to do with a camp... Parks, Recreation and Sports Administration is probably the field he'd want to go in.
