Our Son Graduated from College Yesterday! -- Pic

Here is our middle son, Aaron, along with Ron and me. We are so proud! Did anyone else cry like me when their baby graduated from college? Lol

daisy -we just had our first student pass the new GED2014 test, which is much, much more difficult than the previous test. And he passed each section with honors no less! The class brought in a mortar board for him and made him a poster. I don't know when I've EVER felt more proud, including my own kids' achievements. There are so many complicated reasons that kids don't graduate from hs, and many people know nothing about them. In his case, he had such severe anxiety in hs that he finally just dropped out in his junior year, as he was often unable to even make it to school or through the day. He did nothing for a year, and of course his mom was just desperate. He came to us in January, with so little confidence he could barely be heard when he spoke, and wouldn't look anyone in the eye. We treated him with respect and gentleness, and nudged him along, and he blossomed. Not only did he pass all sections the first time with honors (which will allow him to attend college), but as his mom says, "He is a completely different person." He looks people in the eye, is funny and charming, and the entire class loves him. He came back to the class just to host a Q&A session about the test since he was our first 2014 student. I'll remember him forever. Ironically, he actually got his GED 2 weeks before his high school class graduated!

Got a lot of smiles from these posts. Remembrances of my four going off to college, each for the first time. First to go was DD. She took 125% of everything she needed. The school sent a list and I got another list from a different school too. We got it all. took 2 vans to move her in. She shared a 7 x 11 foot room with one other girl! We have a pic of her room on move in day. Oops, that super size box of Tampax on the bed shows in every picture! Her and old room mate laughed about that one at DD's wedding shower! Now, the next 3 were boys and they take 100% of what they need (meaning: 25% of what you KNOW they need). One set of sheets, who needs to wash except at Xmas and Spring break?! I mean it simply amazed me! If they didn't have something they needed, they just went down the hall and "borrowed" it from someone else (usually a girl who had it all). If they knew they were coming home in 2 weeks, then they didn't do laundry. No, I do not do anyones laundry except mine and DH's, they just didn't want to haul it anywhere. So don't worry, what they don't take with them you can mail or they will beg from soneone else. BTW mail them a package one day BEFORE they leave. Amazing how much a box from home says "I love you". Still have 2 in college, had all 4 in at the same time one year! Kathy G in MI

Hi Kids, Thanks for starting this thread, saramynn. We also have a graduation in May, and have been trying to come up with somthing as a gift. When I think of a graduation gift I like to think of something that will have meaning to the graduate throught the years and remind them of their accomplishments each time they see it. That being said, I'm not crazy about a gift of technology just because of it's short life span. Money is always a safe bet but does not have that personal touch. I think I like sherrmanns idea of the Waterford crystal. Even if it was a smaller piece and then give an additional gift of cash. Thanks Kids, now I have a direction to go in. Thanks for all the nice responses everyone! Alisande, she is 6 hours from us... so a little far for a day visit, but quite doable for a weekend trip. Patti... we helped her move about a month ago.. had dinner at a buffet pizza place (expensive!) in CB and went to TJMaxx and a few other places. We were only in Omaha 2 nights so no extra time for a get together... but I did look around to see if any faces looked familiar. I remembered that you lived there. I'll let you know next time, okay? Glenda, if he's interested in working for the Parks department or something to do with a camp... Parks, Recreation and Sports Administration is probably the field he'd want to go in.

That's a great picture! And Bigbaby--you look super!

My DS and his fiancee graduated in December. His major was IT and hers Business Administration. He's working, and she's still looking for a job. Good luck to Aaron (and Leanne)! :-)

I cry the minute I hear Pomp and Circumstance, so I always stock up on tissues before a graduation. What a great picture--you all look so happy! You and Ron are so cute together.

And, yes, hub and I both cried when our kids graduated. But when the sixth one did, we blubbered like a pair of idiots!

Thanks everyone, especially those of you who said I looked great! Hehe. He had a job lined up with a store chain but they bailed out on him at the last minute. His major was business administration and he is jobless now! He is moving back home until he finds a job, which is okay with me! Now that our kids are growing up and moving out I'm wishing they would come back, and he will for a while! I know it's hard on him but I'm happy!

I know what you mean, Bigbaby. Good luck with the job search. Let us know when you have good news to report. I do feel sorry for kids graduating from college this year. Jobs are scarce. Hope you live close to a metropolitan area with lots of job opportunities.
