Sorta OT - I graduated yesterday!

I graduated yesterday from my MBA program!! I'm terribly excited to be moving on to the next chapter in my life, but also very sad to be leaving such close and wonderful friends, and a little bit nervous about returning to the 'real world' after 2 years off...

BUT, the REALLY good news is that I'm moving into my new house next week so I can now devote some serious time to redoing the kitchen in the new place while I wait on the new job to start!

You all will be seeing me more often, so prepare yourselves!

Me too! I completed my Associates, although it took me five years to do it. I know what you mean about not seeing the people you were in school with. Luckily, one of the ones in my class got a job at the hospital I'm at so I'll still get to see her.

Now that I don't have to constantly study, I'm also ready to start focusing on some home projects. Congratulations!

Congrats! DH just completed a Masters of Science in MIS last month (graduation's in a couple weeks--wahoo!). Our excitement about his regained freedom might be short-lived however. We just found out that his company and the school will now be offering an MBA program (with profs coming to the office two days a week to teach the classes and tuition reimbursement as well, just like the program he just completed).

Tough decision--get our lives back after three years of heck (and tackle the home projects that have been languishing the entire time), or take advantage of free education from a top-ranked school? Hmmmmm?

You may receive oppositional opinions to mine because spiders are right up there with snakes as far as the "freak out factor" goes but I really wouldn't think you'd have to do anything. If you have wood stacked around waiting to be added to the deck that is probably what is attracting them. Once it is up and the deck is installed and being used, you are not likely to see them hanging around. Granted, that doesn't mean they won't be there but they are not going to come up through the woodwork to bother you. They tend to shy away from high traffic areas and will run from you if they sense you are approaching. Chances are that they have been looming around your property since you owned it and you never saw them until you gave them a new area to explore when you brought the wood in. We see them when going in the crawl space, moving stuff around in the garage and lifting the well lid. I just take the broom and sweep them out of my way and carry on. Otherwise, they do not make their presence known to us and have never been found in the house. Just be careful while working in that wood pile while you are constructing your deck. They don't move very fast so being aware that they could be there should be enough to keep you safe.

Here it is...months ago, I saw a cat sitting on my privacy fence. None of my neighbors own a cat, so I figured it was a "wild" cat, probably living in the large wooded area behind my house. She or he would show up for a few days, disappear for awhile, then back again. If I walked into the yard, it would jump off the fence into the woods. Well, about two weeks ago on a very cold night, I was out on the breezeway and heard a "meow" across my driveway. There was kitty kitty, and what did I do??....FED her! She walked right up to the bowl with me standing beside her. Fast forward...now this cat seems to have made a home sleeping on my outdoor furniture and has grown very comfortable with my presence. Admittedly, I have fed her a few times which in retrospect, was a big mistake...I think! I know nothing about cats and have never owned one, and I suppose my heart got the best of me and I couldn't stand the thought of her freezing or starving to death. Yesterday morning, underneath a bench on my breezeway, I noticed feathers and discovered a dead bird...it broke my heart! Now I realize that I'm to blame! Birds and cats don't mix and neither would this cat and my 14 yr. old peek-a-poo. I want her to be safe but I fear for the safety of my back yard birds. She seems to have made herself at home...what can I do at this point? Your suggestions will be most appreciated. Donna

OK, "Holiday-ers!"...you won't believe this! My 30% coupon still had a few days left after getting home from vac on Sun. So a couple of my 'retired co-workers' & I had lunch today & shopped at Kohl's... I was keeping my fingers crossed.... ...saw some other brands of dishes for 40% off & walked in the next aisle...NOT 40% off...but 50%!!!! WOO HOO!!!$$$$ I was definitely seeing RED!!! So for 50% off PLUS my 30% off coupon, I brought home: 4 dinner plates 4 salad plates 4 bread? plates (smaller ones) ...each w/a diff pattern & one milk rooster vase 4 cereal/soup bows (bigger bowls) + 2 more cherry placemats Whoopee!!! Just wanted to share ...I will post pics later...as I need to wash them & change cupboard around so can use as 'everyday' dishes, too! Hmmm... do you really want to know? What gets me is not what I find but what I lost. I wanted to make soup and thought I had a chunk of ham. No ham to be found so I bought some... the next time I looked in the freezer there was that ham sitting there right under the ice cube bin. The bottle of peppermint schnapps is about 5 years old... still in excellent shape if about gone. Dolly is down to the last couple packages of road kill venison... she loves a frozen block of meat to lick on a hot day. I have three hearts and two tounges that are coming out. Bag of pickle spice on the way from Penzey's and they will be pickled soon. I'm back on 7 day work weeks so what soon is I don't really know. Promised myself some steaks when I get the freezer cleaned good. Somehow I lost a quart bag of jalapeno peppers. They were in there and then they were gone... perhaps behind the ham? : ) lyra

BIG BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF YOU!!! Finishing up your degree when you're right out of high school and Mom & Dad are still paying for everything is one thing. Getting any degree while you're holding down a job, and are married, with or without kids, is ten times harder. My hat's off to every one of you who have done it! Good for you and I wish you the very best!

You graduates must be very proud of your accomplishments! What a wonderful and deserving milestone in your life! I never went to college but have worked at one for the last 25 years...it does get sentimental around graduation time. But, tee hee, I look so forward to having the summers off!
