Help! I've made terrible mistakes with LR (pics)
Comments (66)I love the furniture you've picked out. It will look bright and cheery and just the feeling of the inspiration pics you've posted in your other threads...once you paint! Paint the darn room already! :) My last house had muddy mauve and no natural light (houses on three sides and a big porch on the other). As soon as I painted, it changed everything. Even my mood was better. And if you have a front porch, I suggest you paint the porch ceiling blue. It made a big difference looking out my window and seeing Martha Stewart's Porch Ceiling Blue. Almost as good as being able to see the sky. :) Let your room evolve. Don't feel like it has to be "done" right away. Take your time finding art and accessories that you love. You're doing great and you're going to have a lovely space to enjoy....See MoreKnotty pine paneling, need flooring style suggestions
Comments (17)I have yellowed knotty pine on the walls of my late 40s/early 50s beach cottage with oak flooring. Works for me (primarily because I got a great deal on the oak when I was looking to replace the skanky and probably original early 50s carpet), but I was really intrigued by the possibility of using cork or real linoleum flooring in the room. I think it would have looked great - it was just a bit pricey in my situation. Both are supposed to hold up to pet traffic very well and happen to be more or less era appropriate with a room full of knotty pine....See MoreI'm considering painting the knotty pine in my northwoods cabin
Comments (12)I think your ideas are spot on. <---written by a person who hasn't had a scrap of natural wood trim or walls in decades. I'm a white paint person that prefers to have my color in cabinetry, floors, furnishings and art. I'm also a person who lived in northern Wisconsin for 10 years and "selling and rebuilding" isn't as easy there as it is in other places. Little cabins sell but it's a tougher row to hoe with a large home. Large homes of any style. There are only so many buyers. It's too painful to talk about how I know this, lol. Since you have your own painters, maybe consider whitewashing the ceiling and painting the rest? If you don't like it, you can always paint over the white wash. I like the cable railing ideas....See MoreI think I made a big mistake....
Comments (40)I haven't read all of the comments, so someone else may have already suggested this. I love the coral and turquoise, so I like the pop of color from your living room curtains. You also have the color in your sofa pillows and if you add a little big of that coral color pop on the other side of the room and you'll have a cohesive look to the room overall. You could also change the color from coral to yellow since the pic above the fireplace has a preeminent pop of yellow. In the power room I'd add artwork that has a lot of white and whatever color you decide to go with to tone down the brightness of the aqua color and give the eyes a place to rest. I do love the color though and overall think you've done well in your choices. Give yourself some credit!...See MoreDanielle O'Beirne
