I like Queen just fine but I sure don’t get why everyone is still gaga over Bohemian Rhapsody! But to answer your question, I was head over heels for Neil Diamond in HS. And a few years later then boyfriend (and still hubby after 41 years!) and I were listening to Air Supply.

I graduated in '77 - HS faves were the Beatles, CSNY, Yes, Hot Tuna, Leon Russell, ZZ Top, Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead, and a LOT more I can't think of right now.

I remember how we'd go to friends' houses to listen to albums, and sharing them as well, the little rituals involved in playing a record, listening to an entire album played on FM radio - anybody else?

Journey, Al Stewart, Crosby stills and Nash, The Beatles, Gordon Lightfoot, Steve Miller, Simon& Garfunkel, Kate Bush. The kinks.

Only ones I remember specifically from my senior year are Little Feat and Fleetwood Mac. There were more but what was at the top of my list when I was a senior is a blur.

1971 -- CSN&Y, Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Carole King, Linda Ronstadt, Elton John, Yes, Van Morrison, The Doors, Chicago, Jethro Tull, Rollng Stones, Traffic, and of course the Woodstock soundtrack.

I was living in Europe during high school, listening to pop music only occasionally when we could tune it in from Radio Northsea— a lot of Bay City Rollers and Abba. We spent a good bit of time that year in France and the only two songs I remember are both by Charles Aznavour, She and Tous les Visages de L’amour. He was not really a teen heartthrob but his voice was lovely.

Looking at the top bands the year before, during, and after graduation, it's almost impossible to name my personal favorites because I truly believe my generation, late boomers, had the best of the best. My adult kids agree.

Beatles were still going strong with The White Album. How do I choose, because it's during the prime years of the Stones, Jackson Brown, Carly Simon, Three Dog Night, Elton John, Leon Russell, Moody Blues, Linda Ronstadt, and on and on. Oh, Waylon Jennings and his wife Jessie Coulter. American Pie was released then, and oh my. The First Time I Ever Saw Your Face. We had the best of the best.

I can't choose. lol

I went to live with my sister right after high school graduation. One suitcase held my clothes, the other all of my precious albums.

There was only one group for whom I had ALL their albums: Outlandos d’Amour, Regatta de Blanc, Zenyetta Mondatta, Ghost in the Machine, Synchronicity.

1978. Queen, Steely Dan, America, Yes, Foreigner, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Jackson Browne, ELO, Boston, Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band, Pink Floyd. I've seen most of those (sadly, not Pink Floyd) in concert as a teenager and as an adult ETA: Styx., Fleetwood Mac.

Many of the same ones as Allison; not surprising as I graduated a year behind her. : )

I have always loved classic rock.

I also recall buying and listening to Art Garfunkel's solo album a lot back then too.

Until I was out of high school, our radio station was AM. It was a trailer down a dirt road at one of the highest points right outside of town. So we only heard the top 40-est kind of stuff. And there was one night of the week that was pre-recorded on another night of the week from 6 until they went off the air at night. And Sunday nights was polka music.

You weren't really exposed to full album concept stuff unless you bought it somewhere, (and not much was available in town), or you had college age siblings.

1965, Beatles and Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. This was in Memphis, and Booker T and the MGs played our senior prom.

Judi and I must have graduated from different high schools together ;-) My list reads the same.

My high school had our own am radio station and the studio was overlooking the cafeteria - you could walk up the staircase and make requests. The music was broadcast over the air and into the school. Lots of war protest songs were blasted from that little room during lunch periods.

Graduated 1976. Our Jr prom theme song was Knights in White Satin by the Moody Blues, and Sr Prom was Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeppelin. I was a big Kinks fan, though I only had one (older) friend who also loved them. This same friend introduced me to Elton John, via the Friends album freshman year of highschool, and I have loved EJ ever since. I remember my sister playing Cecelia by Simon & Garfunkle on repeat all summer. Literally -the record would end, and she would start it again, 27 times in a row, LOL. But I have loved S&G ever since. Music of that time which I only came to love later includes the Beatles, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Fleetwood Mac, etc.

1966 grad. The Stones, Beatles, The Byrds, Mamas and Papas, Percy Sledge, Otis Redding, Bib Dylan, Beach Boys, Sonny & Cher. Our small town had an AM station too, but we could get WLS out of Chicago most nights. I would sneak listen under the covers many nights on my little portable radio

I am a little surprised that none of you who graduated from high school in or after '74 mentioned Bruce Springsteen. That is when my sister graduated and I am pretty sure he would be at the top of her list.

ETA: Unless you were from NJ or spent summers there, of course, then you would have been aware sooner, I bet. ;-)

I loved listening to music and hung out with several local musicians and groups, although I was NEVER a groupie (LOL)! My favorites?

Bob Seger (a local), Chicago, Santana, Three Dog Night, Moody Blues, Beach Boys, ZZ Top, James Taylor, Carly Simon, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Mamas & Papas, and more. Motown! What a wonderful time to be young and alive! I still love all of their music!

That brings to mind my sister's 6th grade end of year class party --(she is 3 years older )-- had The Tokens. The father of of one of the girls in the class was the music director (? I can't remember the job title) for the Tokens and the Lion Sleeps Tonite. Their last name was really very long and ethnic so I remember on the record it had the last few letters of the name. What a memory.

Class of 1977 I liked individual songs, not groups.

I'm old, and there were so many. Pink Floyd, Iron Butterfly, Rolling Stones, Beatles, Aretha, Stevie Wonder, Jefferson Airplane, Van....we were small town kids addicted to music. A typical small birthday gift in my group was a gift certificate for one record at our music store. So long ago, and so much fun. A little later I became a huge Journey fan, loved Steve Perry's voice. I will still listen to his music even now and he retired decades ago - too young.

Bestyears, when I met DH we were both living in the dorms, and on my first visit to his room he played and sang Nights in White Satin to me on his guitar. :)

Here's another question for those of you regarding popular songs your kids listened to. Did you like them? I lucked out because I wasn't following popular music when they were in jr high and high school until we went shopping and DS1 bought a Guns N' Roses cd, and DS2 bought Metallica.

I'll never forget those years listening to both cds at the same time while each were in their room. Guns N' Roses was one of the best. I'm happy they both had good music back then.

November Rain with Slash's solo, especially while on the beach after the funeral convinced me he is the best guitarist ever.

I got to meet some of this band at a party in Laurel Canyon (L.A.) in 1973.

So long ago:)! I graduated a semester early, in ‘68. The Beatles still ruled, but I remember carefully transcribing the lyrics to Dylan’s Subterranean Homesick Blues, and loving the Stones, Byrds, Lovin’ Spoonful, Jefferson Airplane, Buffalo Springfield, Love, The Who, Cream, Pink Floyd, Kinks, Procol Harum, (I saw many of these acts live) and of course listened to the radio constantly. We turned our noses up at the Monkees, as I recall. I also really loved folk music (Joan Baez) and protest songs (Phil Ochs)-and saw them, too.
