I have many "favorites". That one is the first that comes to mind however.

This is a gospel song, but it just reaches down and touches the most inner part of my heart. When I get down, this just picks me up with the knowledge that I am so loved.

A song I've heard only once. No, not the sweetest melody, but it speaks volumes. I heard it at a funeral, and believe it or not it was sung by the deceased. She was a singer and had recorded it several years before she passed. It was a most beautiful moment to be saying goodbye to Jeri, while she sang to us about her joy.

Horatio Spafford wrote this song in 1873 after he had suffered from many losses. He lost a fortune in real estate in the Chicago fire of 1871 and around the same time lost his only son (age 4) to scarlet fever. He decided to vacation to Europe (and to go visit D. L. Moody) with his wife and four daughters. He was detained in New York but decided to send his family on ahead. During the trip, their ship collided with another vessel and sank within two hours. He received a telegram from his wife saying, "Saved. Alone." He had lost all four of his daughters. On the trip to join his wife he said to himself, "It is well; the will of God be done." He later wrote this famous hymn.

It's extremely difficult to pick one favorite song, but "All This Time" by Sting is right up there for me.

I love so many that are already listed in this thread. Someone mentioned Oh Danny Boy and in that same category is Loch Lomand, two ancient songs that I've sung thousands of times. Used to sing them to my kids when they were babies and still sing them to myself from time to time.

Jel, have you heard George Winston's piano version of Canon in D? It's beautiful. It was a real toss up for me to decide between that and Walking in the Air by Winston. Both, gorgeous pieces but I went with Walking since it's a longer song and I can enjoy it's beauty a longer.
