What is your favorite song

Mine is "Peaceful Easy Feeling" by Eagles. A very close second is "Unchained Melody" by Righteous Bros. Third is "Rock Me Gently" by Andy Kim -- remember that one?

I think it's sometimes difficult to separate the words from the melody and I probably wouldn't be attracted to a song's melody if I disliked the words. However the first secular song I remember from my childhood is The Tennessee Waltz. At the time I had no idea where Tennessee was but I really liked the melody and it's still my favorite among many. I wondered when I might have first heard it and the song was first released in December 1947 and became a multimillion seller via a 1950 recording by Patti Page. So likely I first heard it between the ages of 5 and 8. I know it's an early memory. Interesting tidbit from Wikipedia - as of 1974, it was the biggest selling song ever in Japan. I have too many other favorites to list - I even like national anthems of several countries.

Red Lover beat me to it, my favorite is also Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas. It's such a bittersweet song; it captures the joy of the season but also something I think every year--how precious it is to mark a holiday and have those you love with you. Especially as I (and those I love in my family) get older, it is a thought that resonates with me. I don't ever sit down for Thanksgiving or Christmas without silently giving thanks that we are all together making another memory. "Through the years we all will be together, if the fates allow. Hang a shining star on the highest bough. And have yourself a merry little Christmas now."

This is a good thread, very enjoyable. There are so many favorites, but two that are special to me are: 1. I'll Be Home for Christmas. My father would tell us every time that the song came on about how this was the song they played on the ship on his way to Germany during the Korean War. It became such a funny thing that when I was older, I would end up calling him when I would hear it and say "Dad, did I ever tell you about the time you were on a ship in the army and they played "I'll Be Home for Christmas?...well it's on the radio right now". What a great guy he was, miss him a lot. 2. "Oh Holy Night" a memory created only about 6 years ago--we were on a cruise for Christmas, and we were leaving St. Lucia on Christmas Eve, so standing at the aft of shift watching the island disappear, this was the song that was softly playing on the ship's PA system. Oh, the goosebumps I get. I still don't know if it was Celine Dion or Gloria Estefan singing it. So of course, I have both versions on my iTouch.

Way way too many to list, or even to bring to mind! My top one is probably Canon in D - My heart turns over when I listen to that song. Second, maybe River Dance. I love so many that are already listed in this thread. Someone mentioned Oh Danny Boy and in that same category is Loch Lomand, two ancient songs that I've sung thousands of times. Used to sing them to my kids when they were babies and still sing them to myself from time to time. I have some favorite hymns... Amazing Grace and This is my Father's World are a couple. Unchained Melody - Wonderful song mentioned above. Many others. I love country western and old time rock. My list would be dozens if not hundreds!

Too many in my head to pick just one, and sometimes I love a song but never know the name ! I do like "Unchained Melody", thats an all time favorite. The song Miracles by Jefferson Starship ..Love that one, and In The Air Tonight, by Phill Collins, and I could go on and on. I love alot of native American music by John Huling, Love the CD Spiritland !!!! And Return to Innocence by Enigma...I need to stop here, LOL

LOL! My first Fav Song when I was about 5 was "Load Sixteen Tons" by Tennessee Ernie Ford. I knew all the words. LOL!

Then it was "Happy Trails to You", by Roy Rogers and Dale Evans.

But, times change. "On the Road Again" is my Favorite RVing Travel song. That and "Get Out on the Highway" or was it called "Born to be Wild"? Stephan Wolfe. LOL!

I'm trapped in the 50's, 60's, 70's and 80's Music. I even like Boy George. LOL! The 90's lost me with all the rapping.

"Stairway to Heaven" kinda gets me.

My favorite is "More than Words" by Extreme. I am always amazed at what power songs have on memories. I heard that song when I was on a boat and saw the most beautiful sunset, to this day when I hear that song I can visualize that sunset.

I was fortunate to grow up during the sixties and was surrounded by all the Bay Area garage bands and got to hear groups like the Airplane,Janis and Big Brother and the Holding Company,The Youngbloods, Blue Cheer, and even the Dead before they became household words. Golden gate park and the San Francisco clubs were the norm of my youth.

I'm stuck in the 50's,and 60's and early 70's too. I have always listened to country. When my friends were into the Beatles in the 7th grade I was listening to Sonny James. LOL

I always have a new favorite, but some of the classics I love are Cecelia-S&G, Sweet Caroline and Cracklin Rosie-Neil Diamond, Boys of Summer-Eagles, A touch of Grey-Grateful Dead.

There are a lot of great songs, but one piece of music stands out head and shoulders above all the rest I've ever heard.

Not specifically a song, but movement 'Aquarium' from Saint-Saens Carnival of the Animals just connects with me on a cellular level, somehow. No matter how distressed I am, that piece always calms me.

I Can Only Imagine- Mercy Me is my fav of late but it changes all the time...I'll never get tired of listening to "The Animal Song" by Savage Garden..I got the kids old shuffles and they hold about 200 songs each so one is 60's...one is 70's and one is a conglomerate of everything!
