This is a complete renovation of a kitchen in a historic home in the Baldwin Park area of Savannnah. The original kitchen was a fairly good size, but had a built in seating area that cut the room in half. The last remodel was from the 1960's judging from the avocado green appliances and double hinged saloon door installed between the kitchen and the front hall. We were charged with adding more space, storage, and light into the kitchen without actually changing the footprint. Two large structural beams allowed us to open up the kitchen to the adjacent rooms, copying the arch that preexisted between the front hall and the living room made everything seem original. Once that was done, we installed fully custom cabinets around the perimeter of the kitchen, in the archway, and a new island. The kitchen has three counter surfaces- carrera in the main areas, oak on the island, and painted wood on the display cabinets. The hardwood floors are original but had to be woven in with new reclaimed lumber where we removed the old closet and enlarged the opening between rooms.
