Need help choosing color and decor for my home office
Comments (8)This is hard question to answer -- simply because the answers depend on how you like a room to feel when you are working! I really like the depth and tone of the paint color -- and think it will work well for an office BUT our own home office/guest room is painted in deep olive! Soooooo ... do you like to work in bright sunny "open" rooms -- or do you like cozy spaces for work? IF you do like a cozy space -- remember to add LOTS of lamps around the whole space. We have two very tall buffet lamps on the main desk -- and a swing-arm lamp over the sofa bed AND a smaller lamp over an antique cupboard! Lighting options can be a key element to making an office space work well. For the back wall -- I would recommend bookcases or bookshelves! For example -- check out the "Billy" bookcases at Ikea. Those bookshelves come in two heights -- you could do two tall bookcases at each end of the wall -- and then a shorter one in the middle. Add an artwork over the smaller bookcase. Add bookcase lighting to the taller ones. Or you could add a long thin console table or cabinet -- with three large bulletin boards over the table -- cover with co-ordinating fabric to the rest of the room. Or check out "art.com" -- and simply broswe through categories that might appeal to you and see if a particular artists name might keep cropping up! I've included a hot link over to art.com -- and a selection from my favorite artist -- Chardin -- from the 18th century. Rich extraordinary colors. Another more modern artist is Nicole Etienne. Check out her artworks at art.com. Other possible art selections -- could be maps (new, old, vintage) of places that you might have lived or visited or hope to visit. Or perhaps a grid of (new, old or vintage) botanical prints? Or perhaps a grid of black-and-white photos of local sites or architecture of your area? Hope this helps! Comments (39)That's great you have some help. I was thinking about your office today because I am working on mine and we have a few similarities as far as size and furniture - except I don't have all the great closet space you have! I think once you have the additional furniture in there you can play with where the desk should be. The good thing is you can shuffle it around as much as you need to until you find a look that feels right. If you don't already have some, you should pick up some of those sliders that you place under furniture to help move it around - they make it really easy for one person to move things around to try various configurations. I have several sets and they have been invaluable! In some rooms, we lived with those darn sliders under our furniture for weeks as we tried, lived with, and then changed up where certain pieces of furniture went....See MoreHome office design/decor help needed!
Comments (5)What if you turned the desk so the person sitting is facing out rather than looking into the mirror. Look into getting a square rug for the space. what about some floating shelves for storage on the bike wall? What is around that corner? I found two cool options for the mirror wall one would use command strips to mount artwork: https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/plagued-with-dated-mirrored-walls-5-design-ideas-to-make-them-work-241744 or put a film or decal on them: https://www.spancraft.com/antique-mirror-collection.html...See MoreHome Office Needs HeLp
Comments (5)Let's experiment a bit. Move the current desk in front of the window. Move the trestle table to where the desk is now. Shove the coffee table out of the way. Put the rug under the office chair space to protect the floor. Move your rolling office chair and stuff into this room and use it for a week. See how it goes. In the short run, you'll need to decide if this is YOUR serious full time business office or a shared space with a shared computer where you have to consider someone else's preferences. Do you have a separate work computer? Do you use a computer every workday from 9 to 5?...See MoreBillie
