Anyone shop at Aldi? (It's coming to FL)
Comments (45)Well, I went to my first Aldi today! It was the one in Saint Cloud... I have a mail box there from when I used to live there so I stopped because I was in the area anyway doing errands. It was very clean! Of course it is brand new. I was a little overwhelmed and only spent about 15 minutes in there. The problem for me is that if I see junk food, I will buy it. If I buy it, I will eat it! So, at a regular grocery store, I COMPLETELY skip the cookies/crackers/chips aisles... I don't even look down them! At Alidi, junk and convenience food abounds! It is right in your face because the store is so small. It's in colorful packages at cheap prices, and it's very hard to resist buying! I managed to walk out with a ham for half the price I saw them for at Wal-mart and a gallon of moose tracks ice cream. I wanted to make split pea soup, and have been waiting for a better price on hams (20 bucks is jut too much for me to be OK with spending for one ham!). The young lady who checked me out at the register was friendly and fast. She was sitting on a stool... and had blond hair, half of which was spray painted pink! Certainly not your typical supermarket! I told a friend about Aldi, and he said he'd shop there just because they let their cashiers sit down! I caught myself wishing that some dominatrix had been standing at the door ready to apply manacles to me before crossing the threshold so I wouldn't have snagged any junk food during my Aldi endeavor. Alas, my self control was enough... after all, I only bought the ice cream for medicinal purposes. I woke up with a sore throat today (really I did!), and bought the ice cream solely to numb the pain....See MoreAldi Store Opened Today
Comments (16)We went back to the Aldi tonight, and bough some more groceries. I used a calculator to keep track of how much money I was spending. I add .10-.50 on everything I buy to cover taxes and even by doing that sometimes I get very close to the price I pay at the register. This time I was not even close to what I actually paid. I spent about 86.00. This was with grandson saying "can we get this" every time I turned around. My answer to grandson was "NO" due to it being not an essential product we needed....See MoreWhat to buy at Aldi!
Comments (39)I'll play along... it took me a while to see the merits of Aldi's. Now I probably stop in every 10 days or so. First of all, their produce is usually really good and really well priced. This is variable and I find I can't depend on Aldi's for produce, but generally it's worth it. Their dairy is great and super cheap. I love their cottage cheese and yogurt, as well as lots of their cheeses. One of the things I find is that some of their packaging is really superior. I get a package of sliced muenster cheese that is delicious and will last a good month after opening. I don't eat it often, but it's yummy and lasts. They also have this tub of pretzel rods that DH is addicted to. Most places it is $7 or so, here it is $4. Their chips are not so wonderful (which is a good thing). One time at work someone brought in one of their prepackaged cakes, and it was to die for. It was a chocolate bomb kind of thing. So far I have resisted buying it again but if you need a quick decadent dessert, have at it! I do browse their general merchandise aisles but have only rarely bought something there. I do agree though if you see it and like it, buy it because it most likely won't be there next time....See MoreAnyone know what my $5 Aldi's plant is?
