Littlebug, I did the same a long time ago. I finally broke down and got prescription readers several years ago and knew those needed to stay in my handbag. I use readers a lot for reading labels, and stuff wherever I am in the house. I can’t tell you how many cheap readers I have in various rooms and drawers in the house and with my gardening stuff.

The oddest thing I ’lost’ was a garden tool called a snakehead. It is perfect for weeding and a few other things because of the length & had a loop of twine to hang on the wrist. There are only a few places it could have been stashed and I looked outside around every garden bed. I could not find it anywhere all summer after it went missing so i ordered another one. Last year it suddenly appeared back in my garden tool box, minus the twine handle loop.

I never realized how lucky I am, that my glasses are on first thing in the morning and off last thing at night. Hard to lose them!

I looked again everywhere. My shelf that holds my cookbooks in case it got lost in a paper or book. No open windows here, looked on all my clothes, under my shoes , nothing, nowhere. I am so stumped.

I was expecting to see the update, I found them! But alas, didn't happen. Maybe soon. Yes, I misplace my stuff all the time. I've been desperate enough to look inside the fridge and drawers that I rarely open, knowing full well I would never have put ___________ in there. I get kiddo to call my cell when I lose it. What will I do when she leaves again? ;)

The best way to find a lost item is to buy a new one. It is then guaranteed to show up again.

We moved and never found that flaming yellow halogen work light. Last I remember it, I was painting a dimly lit stairwell. Then it vanished. Maybe the new owners found it.

My MIL lost her good prescription glasses for several days. She actually made an appointment with the eye doctor for new ones. Then she found them in the dishwasher! (To be fair, we think she had them hanging on the front of her shirt and they fell off.)

Well it is hard to find something deemed lost. I would try scooting around at a different level to figure out where where the plastic floated too or maybe it flutter and got stuck on something. A different vantage point might make the label pop or stand out. It is right there hidden waiting to be found. Maybe the flashlight on your phone will cause a reflection if you shine it around.

The first post I looked at this morning was this one and it made me laugh because my reading glasses weren’t where I expected them to be! I have prescription glasses worn only for driving, so they are always in my purse. I have 2 pair of prescription reading glasses and daily forgot where I put them. I finally bought a box of 5 cheap readers. I put one in the kitchen, one in the sewing room, and one next to my recliner. Still, I will sometimes leave the kitchen (or other area) with them on and later forget I did so. But I know where to find another pair, right?

DH on the other hand regularly puts things in odd places and later, when he needs ‘it’, we scramble to locate it. Sometimes it never shows up.

“My last memory was taking them off and setting them on the table, I am blank from there. Oh, the were 2 of them. I did find the plastic piece they came off of so I know they were real.”

Just more proof of a parallel universe. ♾️

DH is the master of losing things around here. He can even create a place for some doohickey or other and still manage not to put it there. He loses his phone daily. A couple of days ago he dropped it on the highway while out on his bike ride. I located it with Google maps for him but that is no help here on the property. He loses his keys and his gloves and any and all tools. His pocket knife gets set down any old where open no less. No order, no method. I rarely lose things because I put things away automatically but if I do lose something it is gone forever. I am very thorough about it.

One of my friends commented on the fact that I have backups for everything. The truth is that I have discovered the secret for finding lost items is to buy a replacement. I own two of everything.

In all seriousness, I had the oddest lost item story a few weeks ago. One of my friends was sitting on my sofa, pulled out his reading glasses to read something, took his glasses off and he starts looking on the floor and the sofa - I asked him what was wrong and he said one of the lenses popped out of his glasses when he took them off. The lens is gone. I have torn the sofa appart, moved the sofa, moved the coffee talbe, vacummed the floor. He took off his shirt, checked his clothes. . . How far could a glasses lens go??? His glasses are still sitting on my coffee table waiting for me to find the lens.

I am starting to wonder if he lost the lens somewhere else and didn't notice that it was gone until he took them off - but I can't imagine that you wouldn't notice a missing lens while reading, but I can't see my hand without my glasses, he just needs readers, so maybe???

I do have a question about readers - This same friend has his pair of prescription readers that he paid over $100 for, but they are just readers, the same thing as you purchase at the drug store or costco. Why would you purchase a pair from the eyedoctor that cost so much more than the otc glasses. My friend has a difficult time with saying no, so when he goes to the eye doctor and they do the exam and send him out front to the glasses section he feels obligated to buy a pair of glasses. Does anyone else feel like this is part of the package when getting an eye exam? I go to my eye doctor but never buy from his glasses department - they tend to carry very plain glasses and I wear purple or red or my current ones multicolor stripes.

@Jennifer Hogan - For readers, I’ve never had an optometrist do more than suggest what strength to buy OTC. The only reason I can think to buy there is if you specifically want a fashion frame they have.

I hate the optician at my eye doctor. I made the mistake of going to a wall display and picking up a frame. She barked at me because unknowingly I had walked behind “her” counter. Turns out you can’t just grab a pair, try them on, put them back and move on. No, you have to tell her which you’d like to try, she hands them to you then offers her critique. So awkward. She pressured me into a frame that was just awful once, fortunately I had enough complaints about the progressive lenses that I just asked for a refund. Every time I go there I see some poor soul going through this awkwardness.

Jennifer, the readers you get from the optometrist are prescription. It is unlikely that both eyes would need the same prescription. And those that you buy at the drugstore are the same for either eye.

My readers are all cheap Target ones, but I have nicer ones when I go out.

donna, I agree. The readers I have gotten at my optometrist have really cute frames that fit. That is my biggest complaint with the ones from the drug store. They don't really fit and aren't comfortable and aren't my exact prescription.

I have a really cute pair that were my glasses before I had cataract surgery. I opted for the lens to see distance for the cataract and then had my cute glasses made into my readers. I really dislike how cheap readers feel on my face.

*UPDATE* now this is very strange. I walked into my kitchen this morning and there on the floor as you first go in is 1 sticker/decal. There is no way it had been there it was in the wide open. I checked all my floors for the past 4 days. Now I am waiting for the next one to appear from the sky. It has to be a gremlin or a spirit. I will let you know if it happens.

Whenever I am taking leftovers home I put my keys in the fridge with the leftovers so I dont leave them behind.

I ONLY have doctor issued reading glasses or driving glasses.....cheap plastic ones literally make me nauseous. (Up thread somene asked why would you want a dr's script on common reading glasses)

Cheap sunglasses can cause nausea, headaches, dizziness, or eye strain in some people because of optical distortion. Here's what's happening:

• Wavy or uneven lenses. If the lens isn't manufactured with consistent thickness and curvature, light bends unevenly across different parts of the lens. Your eyes and brain are constantly trying to compensate, which can make you feel queasy.
• Poor optical quality. Tiny imperfections can create a subtle "funhouse mirror" effect. Many people don't notice it, but some are very sensitive.
• Prism errors. If the optical centers of the two lenses don't line up correctly, each eye is looking through a slightly different part of the lens. Your eye muscles work harder to merge the images, which can lead to nausea or headaches.
• Running makes it worse. When you're running, your head is constantly bouncing. Any distortion in the lenses changes rapidly with each step, making your brain work even harder to stabilize the image. (Sunglasses have to be doctor/script quality too)

DH and our daughter do the same with keys and leftovers. Works well with items other than leftovers, too.

A couple months ago DH let our little puppy play with a golf ball.🤬 She had it on her mouth then it was gone. It would have only involved the kitchen and laundry room but was nowhere to be found. We looked everywhere.…under and behind everything. Concern she might’ve swallowed it made me call the vet, even though I was sure she’d have shown some kind of distress. I sure would if I swallowed one! They confirmed there was no golf ball in her system. That ball has yet to be found.

chloebud, that is very common with golfballs. They often disappear, never to be found again. At least that’s my experience. 🏌️‍♀️

I was just at my neighbors. She lost her hearing aid while we were talking and she was sitting on her chair. We look everywhere and looked under the chair. She felt in her hair, nothing. We were sitting and talking, it showed up where we both had looked????

I had a puppy lose a blue rubber ball. It was her most favorite toy, she played with it constantly. It was way too big for her to swallow and she was not reliable with house training yet so she was always under supervision. She was playing with it one minute, gone the next. She did not go outside in the interim, she never left 2 adjacent rooms.

She loved it so much we went through the entire first floor inch by inch. Nada. We looked several times over days. Was never seen again, even when we moved years later.

We also tried to replace the blue rubber ball with a red one, which was exactly like the blue one in every way but color. Same manufacturer, same size, even smelled the same to me.

Except the red ball was absolute garbage and deemed unsuitable by the little princess.

Well, I lost a cat years ago. We had friends visiting that night, and I thought she had mistakenly gotten out when they left, as all my cats have always been strictly indoors. I looked everywhere and then walked the streets and alleys with a flashlight, calling kitty, kitty. Came home and heard a tiny sound. This was our old kitchen before the remodel, and there was a built-in desk with a large telephone book (remember them?) drawer. Peeper had jumped in there in the afternoon when I was looking up a number, so almost 12 hours before.

Joann, could it have been on the bottom of your shoe? (only would work for a sticker, no good for reading glasses).

I have had some items not be in their place only to find them there later! That is the weirdest thing. I have to say that since we moved into our house, I have not had that happen. I guess the apartment was haunted? HAHA! :O

In our household, my husband is the one who is good at losing things and I'm the one who is good at finding them. My best searching techniques are crawling around on my hands and knees, and shining a flashlight when the room is dark. It's amazing how well changing the viewing perspective works.

Well now I know why one of my Rotties was obsessed with blue handballs. I thought it was the size or texture. Never really thought about the color.

@NiCOZ5, I completely agree re prescription glasses vs cheap readers. My eye doc explained this to me when I first got reading glasses. Your summary is spot on. The onlynreason i keep them around the house is so I can read a label or something pretty quick. I also rotate my ‘newest old’ pair to my nightstand for reading in bed, my tracel tote bag (in case I lose my newer ones), and a few other spots. My prescriptiin hasn’t changed too significantly thatnit’s a problem. Plus they fit so much better & are more comfortable. .

Skipping down to add that last night, hubby was walking around looking for something, and when I asked, it turned he couldn't find his readers. He must buy several pairs a month, since they all eventually wind up either broken or lost.

Anyway, he was looking in the dark(!) and as soon as I turned on the overhead light, I spotted them on the floor right in front of the couch where he'd been sitting. I told him it reminded me of that old joke about looking for something in a different place because the light was better there. He said he'd never heard that joke 😄

Going back up to finish reading now...

P.S. @ chloe - something almost exactly the same happened to my BIL when their son was a toddler. After searching up & down the neighborhood and getting neighbors involved, my nephew turned out to have been sound asleep amongst a pile of toys on the couch 😏

No Kitties, checked all shoes. Still missing 1 decal, Day 5. We lost our son when he was young also, He was asleep in his room.

The thing is, with something as thin as a decal, it could be right in plain sight, but on edge, so it would be very hard to notice.

Rather sorry to pass on some bad news to you, younger folks - but it gets more intense as you age.

o j - who, at 97, lives in what might/( should?) be called a somewhat cluttered house.

I just cleaned my spare room on Thursday after having guests stay over Mon - Wed. Yesterday I went back into the spare room to put the guest towels in the room and there was a mint green woman's ankle height sock laying on the top of the cedar chest. I thought to myself - I could not have missed this when I was cleaning. But I called my guests to see if they were missing a sock. Not theirs - she only wears bombas and this wasn't a bomba's sock.

I have no idea where this sock came from. I live alone - isn't mine. Haven't had anyone else stay in the room since April and it isn't theres either.

Now that is downright spooky!

Another story that just happened a few hours ago, and it wasn't funny. There were tree guys cutting down three 100-year-old trees across my side street. So very sad to see, but they were another damage of our horrible storm with a limb on the roof. Husband went to work early, and I got up to see Bernie the Maine Coon at the French doors. I filled their three water bowls and filled their three bowls of wet food and gave Bernie his insulin. Willie always waits at my side for his wet and Bernie eats his on the island and Poppy, wherever she is. No Willie. I called and called and went everywhere in this house and basement with a FLASHLIGHT.. i CALLED HUSBAND AT WORK AND HE SAID HE WAS THERE THIS MORNING EARLY. The only thing I thought was he slipped out the door with husband. I CALLED AGAIN AFTER ANOTHER HOUR OF SEARCHING INSIDE AND OUT, AND HUSBAND CAME HOME TO LOOK. (Sorry for the caps, wasn't looking)Suddenly, Willie appeared, and we don't know where he was. He ate down his wet food and is gone again. The tree people were making a horrendous noise, but they're gone, with just the giant logs lying there to be picked up, but Willie is in hiding, and I need a tranquilizer.

Willie finally came out from his hiding place so traumatized by the deafening sounds of the wood chipper right outside our window.

Speaking of pets hiding, we came home one day to find our German shepherd missing. There's no way she could have gotten outside, so we knew she had to be in the house somewhere. Of course, we called, shook her food dish, etc. to no avail. I finally found her behind the dryer in the laundry room. I have no idea how she got back there. We had to disconnect the dryer from the wall vent and move the dryer to get her out.
