sensitive skin with blackheads
Comments (9)Hi, Meandra. Your solution is to stop using cleansers on your face all together. I have the exact same skin problems. My whole family gets this skin with age and it's no fun. My skin is the worst - it's sensitive, like an open wound, I've always had pimples and scalp problems. I'm allergic to just about everything on Earth (it seems). Sound familiar? It sounds to me like you're heading into acne rosacea territory (strawberry nose), and the only solution I know to work is homeopathy. I use herbal remedies and natural remedies of all stripes for all kinds of stuff, but there is not a tonic that will help your skin, I promise. The two homeopathic treatments you can use (wouldn't advise while breastfeeding - could be harmless, but I don't know): calc sulph and calc carb (Boiron has appropriate strength ready to go for this purpose). Calc sulph is for acne and boils and seems to take the red out, and calc carb is a treatment for cradle cap - does wonders for seborrheic problems of all kinds, keeps those black/brown heads down to a dull roar. When I first started this regimen, it seemed to make my skin worse (had a minor breakout on my neck), but when that cleared up, my skin looked 100% better. My cheeks are white-ish, my nose is pink, but not red/bloody/awful. Back to no soap on your face! Warm water rinse twice a day, use a very soft, dry wash cloth to massage (gently) your skin dry (broken veins aren't nice and irritated skin is unpleasant). No toner! You can moisturize and I find that a mild, sensitive skin type is fine... many herbal/natural moisturizers actually contain lots of things that I am sensitive to. I hate to say I use generic oil of olay, very sparingly. Cold and hot water will make your skin unhappy! Hot especially. My sister also put me on to flax oil and zinc. I take those too. This might also be contributing to my skin success. Sorry for rambling - finding these things were like finding the holy grail for me!...See More6 Weeks of Fitness, Week 4 (Cycle II)
Comments (10)Annie, you are so close! You can do it! Outside, do you have any more organized runs or races coming up? Maybe the weather is not conducive to it now, though? Lyfia, I am glad to hear you're on the road to recovery! This has to be the worst part, though . . .the waiting! How much longer with the cast? I bet you will be back in no time since you are putting effort into the recovery, which many do not do. Interesting about the team motivation. I am the opposite! I am not competitive and don't like disappointing others, so I prefer to do it alone. Kiki, how did your return go? That is quite a list of changes! A huge congrats to finding and sticking to what works. That is really amazing! Oh, Beth! There isn't a thing wrong with vodka and bologna. My only thing would be not to think of starting/stopping. Think of how you can make permanent changes that you do not want to stop. A real lifestyle change. If that means taking a few weeks off of the gym, then that is OK. Vodka for bed? Fine. But make that be your plan, not a stop. You have to make this so easy and right for you that it works and you are constantly succeeding (or 90%, as we've been told here). If I had to go to the gym to work out, I would fail. I think it would actually be cheaper for me to go in the long run, but I could not do it because it's too complicated. If I had to use the treadmill, I'd fail. I've tried and it's so boring. Things that work for others would not work for me. It's so individual and personal-- different for everyone. If I had to work on what I eat, I'd fail. During these weeks, I briefly tried to improve my diet, and you know what? Totally made me eat worse. I have been OK with how I eat for years, and I do not want to mess with that. What works for me is my set time (morning), easy place (basement), and am making sure I add a lot of challenge and variety to my workouts (love the kettlebell and just got heavier hand weights), it is great. I didn't know that if things got too easy, it actually got BORING. I thought I needed to be perfect to move on, but no. Thanks, everyone, for commenting. It is really more fun knowing others are in this!...See MoreHyper pigmentation under my eyes
Comments (25)Schoolhouse it may be something else. However, I had a tiny little spot on my upper arm in my 30's and my then dermatologist said it's nothing, don't worry about it and refused to remove it. Well after two years I finally went to see another dermatologist who said the same thing, but also said if it bothers you let's take it off. She did and sent it to the lab. Well it was Basal Cell Carcinoma, an atypical presentation. She explained that Basal Cell is really not dangerous, but more like a warning sign that I need to have a skin check every year and use lots of sun protection. That is why I would never except a wait of several months before a doctor examines any change in my skin that I did not recognize. I know a seborrheic keratoses when I see one. They come in many different colors, sizes, and textures, yet are all very similar....See MoreConsidering Laser Hair Removal
Comments (23)I thought I should come back and give an update. I had my consultation and they honored the Groupon. I got a huge deal of whole upper legs and bikini, 6 treatments for $320. The tech couldn't believe it and went to check with the manager to make sure the Groupon was real. She had offered me $2000 and then dropped to $1000 before I showed her the Groupon. I had a treatment 3 weeks ago. It was much less painful than waxing. She said she would like to turn it up a little the next time. I am not impressed with the client service the tech is providing. Her technical skills may or may not be fine. I don't know how to judge that. Her customer service skills leave a lot to be desired. First I had to wait for 20 minutes before she was ready for me. Next she left the room in the middle of my treatment to "take someone off a machine." Then she left again for many minutes, returned said she had an emergency phone call and would continue while staying on the phone waiting for someone to return to the call. I told her no go take your call and then return to me. I lay on the table covered in the goo used for the laser for twenty minutes before she returned. When she returned she explained she was taking care of a client, not a personal emergency. I will say something if this occurs again. It is unacceptable. I guess you get what you pay for. Today I noticed some small hairless spots, but that may be normal. However, I noticed that many shorter dark hairs seemed odd. They were falling out. YEAH!! I know that may not happen for all my hair, but was glad that I might have a little early success....See More- 9 days ago
