Why I love Spring
Breakfast in the Gazebo. We have had the most amazing Spring. The past week it has been mostly rain. My gardens are incredible.
Breakfast in the gazebo with DH is almost a daily treat. The birds and flowers , fresh mowed grass. The sun is shining and cooler 70’s/50’s are the forecast.
Fresh fruit, homemade yogurt and my whole wheat toast.

And then DH made lunch. Wonderful breeze . Honey Smoked Salmon and Spring vegetables and Feta with Kalamata olives and with EVOO and White Balsamic Vinegar. He spoils us!

Comments (49)Buzzing about Spring? Nah. Never mind that my trees are a full month ahead of schedule. People are buzzing about an overnight low that broke the previous record high. People are buzzing about Memorial Day water temps on St. Patrick's Day. Thanks to AGW it appears we're playing with loaded dice. Interesting times indeed. Comments (10)Honestly, I have never thought iris leaves are that all fire attractive but the blooms sure do make up for it. Here the iris leaves look pretty good, green like they are in spring as long as they get some water. I don't want to do annuals as anything and everything spreads or sprawls and I don't want to cover those rhizomes when they are putting on the new growth. Spring bulbs just seem to be logical to me as they bloom, follige only stays for awhile and then it all just dissapears. Late spring or summer you would never know those bulbs had been there. I figgure the dying spring bulb folliage is only ratty looking for a short while. The thing I am thinking is to select the right bulbs or combo of bulbs. I was thinking about it. I was thinking between the each iris in the iris rows afew dutch iris. The bulbs are small, like onion sets. They don't get planted too deeply. About 4-6 inches. And everyone said they die out after afew years up here in the north. As I have never had them fall planted I don't know how long they will actually last for me. But they are also really easy to pull up if they crowd the iris. Then between the rows tulips, maybe daffs, maybe both. But only afew in each grouping so there are not big clumps. Comments (3)I have always had a spider phobia and it only seemed to make them want to crawl on me more. I strongly avoid pesticides and believe in natural predator/prey balance. Once your spiders have had their fill of bugs, they will hunt elsewhere. They are a gardeners best friend-just wear gloves to avoid bites. As afraid of spiders as you are, imagine their reaction with you? After all, they don't go out of their way to bite. Have been tempted to go a pet store and handle tarantulas. The only way to overcome a phobia is to face it head on. For right now, I just respect them. If they come in the house, they get sucked up in the central vac. Comments (2)Happy Saint Patrick's Day to ya. Been taking midday strolls the past week because the weather is so nice. I realized a Chasmanthe bulb I received as a mystery bulb last fall is actually grown all over the neighborhood, I'd just been mistaking the dense stands of leaves for Dietes or something, which is also everywhere. I'm pretty stoked. The flowers first bloom in February here and last a long while. This being the rose forum I feel like I should update about roses. It is Sunday so breakfast is special. DH made his biscuits and omlettes. yum! in the gazebo

Dinner in the Gazebo. We only eat 2 meals a day. 8am and 3 pm. DH grilled chicken on his iron griddle. Roasted 1/2 baked potato ( I cut them baste with EVOO and roast in toaster oven on parchment at 350° for 1 hr. ) roasted fresh beets and steamed Brussel Sprouts.
Dessert was his breakfast biscuits with fresh Strawberries and ice cream .
I need a nap lol.
